Kind of a WTF deal, I've been noticing a lot of Troop B traffic on the Mission Tower the past few days. Anyone else notice that? I thought Mission primarily carries Troop A and medical helos from time to time.

Going backwards with interop

http://forums.radioreference.com/co...e-fee-use-state-radio-system.html#post1876356

I took this from the announcement page and put it here for the KSICS so we can all discuss and cuss it as we deem necessary.

They have just about every county in this state over the barrel. We were all told in the last 7 years that there would be no charges other than for the leasing, renting or purchasing radios to work on the system. Most of the counties in Kansas that jumped on board the system are small enough and don't have the budgets to pay a fee like this. Of significance and concern to me is the fact that the Regional Councils were asked for funds to finish out several of the towers in the last couple years.

Another big step backwards in the realm of interoperability. As a COML for our Type III Incident Management team here, it is going to be a sad day. The state might see this as a cash cow, but in the long run they are going to lose so many people. I have read of four other counties who have submitted letters to the state. There is also the military folks who are using this system and are not going to want to pay for the privileges.

Let's not let this get out of hand...blame it on a new Agency head who has learned a very valuable lesson about learning history and facts before he speaks. The have already backed off his statements, and are performing damage control, however careful they are to say the fees are still a possibility in the future. Hopefully they look around and see what reasonable fees are, and take into consideration how much region and local money went into the existing system construction that the locals could have held onto.

Seems like people just don't want to pay for what they buy anymore. If we want a statewide radio system like KSICS we normally pay for it with state taxes. If people vote for "tax cuts" (as they have in the last two elections), then the individual counties or cities are going to get the bill from the state. Either way, the taxpayer is going to shell out. And if the system gets "privatized", there will be yet another guy in line with his hand out for our money. And the system won't be a dime cheaper. We get what we pay for. Bob, WoNXN

But you have to remember "privatization" is never about saving money. It's all to let the politicians say; "Re-elect me! Look how much I've decreased the size of government." They never mention that it now costs the taxpayers twice as much to have a private company do the same thing government employees were doing directly. The private company will always want to make a profit either at the expense of the taxpayers, their own employees, or the quality/level of “service” they provide….

Remember that when they want to privatize the Post Office...... that was probably on Paul Ryans' "to do" list had he been elected.

I'm just waiting for the first "privatized" criminal execution! We already have a large number of "private" prisons. What's the next logical step....

I heard EagleMed traffic on ID 672 this afternoon. Has anyone else heard it. I'd like someone else to confirm this before submitting it to the DB.

New Coffeyville KSICS Site?

I came across this site in the FCC Grant's List:

GE WQQJ603
KANSAS, STATE OF
[EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS ESSENTIAL TO PUBLIC SAFETY ACTIVITIES OF THE APPLICANT]
Control Point 1 - 700 SW HARRISON, TOPEKA KS 785-296-3661
(link)
01/08/2013 License Issued
1 - HWY 166 EAST, COFFEYVILLE (MONTGOMERY) KS [Structure: Lattice tower] (map)
851.2875 FB2C 150p 345e Units: 1 20K0F1D 20K0F1E 20K0F3E
853.4875 FB2C 150p 345e Units: 1 20K0F1D 20K0F1E 20K0F3E
2 - (MONTGOMERY) KS 48.0 km radius around fixed location 1
806.2875 MO 35p 70e Units: 100 20K0F1D 20K0F1E 20K0F3E
808.4875 MO 35p 70e Units: 100 20K0F1D 20K0F1E 20K0F3E
851.2875 MO 35p 70e Units: 100 20K0F1D 20K0F1E 20K0F3E
853.4875 MO 35p 70e Units: 100 20K0F1D 20K0F1E 20K0F3E

It looked a kind of strange, so I checked the 851.2875 frequency for Kansas and found this license issued in November 2012:

WQJK915 (KANSAS, STATE OF) FCC Callsign Details

Unless I am really blind (it is Monday)- I don't see this site listed in the KSICS database anywhere. Is this another gap filler site like they have south of Ark City on US 77?

What is also interesting is that the 851.2875 and 863.4875 freqs are not regularly used in the KSICS freq plan. This is the only place in the state that KDOT has them licensed.

Any ideas?

I have a connection with the CPD he told me that they were going to stay on the 800 freq's and not got to the digital they have a few KSICS radio's but they don't use them. I was told that they feel the entire county is in great shape radio wise with out having the extra expense. He said th Independence had the same feeling and both cities work well together as well as the sheriff's department in montgomery county. I also know most of there ems which is Hospital operated do most transfers out of state to Oklahoma or Missoure so ems is spending money to go that way radio wise.

I'm confused by your question.

Is the actual system fully rebanded? Yes.
Is the database info the rebanded frequencies? Yes
Is the homepatrol using the rebanded frequencies? I don't know. Only one of the frequencies in the database is listed as a control channel and it is a rebanded frequency. Out of 20 frequencies there should be more then one control channel. I'm only in Wichita a couple times a year so couldn't really address that. Your question may receive a quicker and accurate response from somebody in one of the many Wichita threads.

Maybe, part of the confusion is that it isn't clear which system you are talking about. You refer to Wichita and the City- but you are posting on a thread about the statewide radio system.

KSICS is fully rebanded and all the state radios have had the second "touch" completed some time ago.

If your question is about the Wichita / Sedgwick County system, you might post it in a thread about that system or start a new thread about your question on the Kansas page.

I did some more digging and this appears to be a new tower site constructed on KDOT property just east of Coffeyville on the north side of US 166. If anyone is in Coffeyville, they might plug these channels into their scanner. I am willing to bet one channel will tie to KHP H-1 and the other to the KDOT talk group for that district. Same for Ark City if anyone gets a chance to plug those channels in to check them.

Yes, I agree and please submit.
In the last 2 weeks 255 hits on the KSICS Wichita tower and, 118 hits on the Butler Simulcast.

Today they were flying into Wesley Medical center here in Wichita.

When I actually hear traffic it is usually Eaglemed 19, I think i have also heard 18.
