Just picked up a new talk group 568. It sounds like Scott County Sheriff. The dispatch side was encrpyted, but the deputy side was in the clear. Also hear car to car in the clear. Guessing this is a mistake and they will have everything encrypted soon. This is the 1st day I have heard Scott county on 800. They had been using their old channels. I couldn't find TG-568 in the list so I'm only guessing that it was Scott County SO, but by the radio traffic it sounded like LEO & location was in Scott County.

Also Troop E Highway Patrol out of Garden City is doing radio maintenance today. Just heard broadcast all towers for Troop E would be down for 10 minutes, and have heard troopers checking out at station for radio maintenance.

Pottawatomie Tribal fire

I have been hearing more traffic lately from Pottawatomie tribal fire on TG 4333 however both sides of the traffic are identifying as radio id 75523. I can also hear the Motorola talk permit tones every time a user keys up. I'm wondering if they are using their conventional channel that is patched into the digital side? What would cause that talk permit to come across?

Leavenworth county is rebanding, along with the Bonner Springs and Easton KSICS towers, as I write this. It should be completed by the time you read it.

I've been hearing "Radio Check" traffic on new TG 4490 in the last couple of days. It has been while I'm at work during the day, so I haven't been able to determine which tower this is coming off of. They are using ten-code responses, so I'm guessing it is Law Enforcement of some sort. Has anyone else heard them yet to pin-point it?

TG 4490 seems to be Clay County Sheriff. I've heard a couple of references to Morgansville....

Site ID question

I have noticed the Site ID in the KSICS database does not correlate any longer with the tower site information that I pick up off my radio. Anyone else notice this?

Anyone know if they're doing anything with the Huron(Atchison County) and Troy (Brown County) towers?? For the last couple of days I've heard nothing and using my HP-1 there is no tower signal or activity from these 2 towers, I know it is not my antenna as I'm able to pick up the Leavenworth tower and Buchanan Co. Mo. P25 system without any problem.

DB Admins apparently decided to split" out the sections of the system into RF-SS and Site. RF-SS is "RF sub-system" and is really the first two digits of the hex site id info. Remember, you're actually dealing with a computer network without wires (at least the part we hear of it) so it works in hex addresses. On my Pro-106, it shows the site control info as:

Sy: 1B2 R002 S020

for the Aulne, Marion County site #220 (02-14h) and in the database is now listed as RF-SS 2 (2h) Site 020 (14h). It really makes sense because if the system grows or has more "tie-in" systems, it will allow easier managment of the system data. If say Wichita/Sedgwick County ties their future system into KSICS, it could be given RF-SS 3 under System 1B2 and those sites could be co-located within the existing KSICS structure without problems.

Probably been rebanded, since they are two of the last ones remaining. Change the frequencies 15 MHz down (866.xxx becomes 851.xxx etc) and they'll probably be there. Need to get those last few confirmed as changed so the database can be updated, along with the last few remaining conventional towers in western Kansas that are probably trunked now. Anyone? Anyone? :)

The Lawrence tower is rebanded. Leavenworth County was told that they were nearly the last, and LV was rebanded over a week ago. I suspect the rebanding is complete now.

Hutch Police have switched back to the old analog 155.250 for the last day or so. Anyone know why?

KHP is reporting that they lost connection with all the tower sites in northwest Kansas (Troop D) this morning. I know that the towers still continue to function in local mode without the network, but you would think that there would be better redundancy built into the system so that even if the primary network failed they would have a backup in place.

I heard this happen a while back to the Topeka tower. There were several agencies trying coordinate with the weather service in Topeka but unless they were on the Topeka tower NWS wouldn't hear them. KHP was advised of the problem but wouldn't acknowledge there was a problem because they couldnt see anything wrong on their end.

I've seen our radios flashing "site trunking" a few times. Is that what they do when the network fails and they are just using a single site?

Tuesday & Wednesday Traveled I-70 from Grainfield to Saline. The Towers from Grainfield to Hays were silent, no traffic at all. From Hays to Salina everything worked loud and clear and then from Salina to Wichita on I-135 was Loud and clear. I think the Northwest towers are still down. I didn't even pickup Wakeeney or Oakley and they always come in loud and clear.

Between 2 and 2:30 today Kansas Highway Pratol was in a case on US-50 that ended in Kinsley Kansas. They used the Kansas Highway Patrol fixed wing aircraft call sign 900, guessing it came from Wichita. Anyway the suspect was able to ditch the car in a river and get away on foot for a short time. once the aircraft got on scene it seemed to have trouble communicating with ground units. It seemed like every other transmission would go from voice to digital about half way through the transmission. Troopers on foot using handie talkies seemed to have the most problems with it.
Wondering if anyone else is noticing this problem? I have notice some times when troops are out by the colorado border they have that trouble. I just thought it was maybe due to being away from a tower. Any thoughts?
