Want to talk a little bit about Lee County's law enforcement encryption.. and I'm going to note my recent encrypted findings from CFR-3..
It is known that all law enforcement talkgroups are 100% encrypted (with the exception of some LCPA talkgroups.. which are never used). How does this encryption work? Are they encrypting the talkgroups, or the radios? Or both? From scanning LCFD, I can conclude that the talkgroups must be the only thing encrypted, as numerous LCSO units (who work the MERTs.. so choppers and marine units mostly) are completely unencrypted when transmitting on these talkgroups. But CFR-3 is encrypted, which is not a law enforcement talkgroup.. and as Larry said, it's suspected that while the talkgroup is probably unencrypted, it was probably APD units that were chatting it up on this talkgroup - so.. the radios are encrypted?
Lee County's encryption has me at quite a daze. It seems most law enforcement talkgroups are encrypted, while some appear to be left unencrypted.
I'm going to program-in some of the unchartered waters on law enforcement talkgroups.. truly hoping there's something out there worth listening to (compared to the dud talkgroups, like everything under LCPA, that only gets traffic when AIRCOM does their morning tests). Highly doubt there will be notable traffic left unencrypted, but I'm going to see for myself lol. If anyone has thoughts on this, I would appreciate your input on it. Thanks.
