Ok, the moment many of us have been waiting for has arrived (I hope)! With help from UniTrunker (thanx Rick!) I grabbed the LCN for Site Four this morning and it tracked the LexFD talk groups.... To allow the greatest flexibility in downloading the system it is listed with the total system LCN and the three "Virtual" sites as separate entities. The FCC Sites are listed only so the freqs used to configure the TRS will be evident and the ingenuity used to put this thing on the air will shine thru.

It tracks in my BCD396T using the three sites as separate systems, all with the same talk groups (keeping in mind that there are some agencies I have only monitored on one site, other agencies on, now, all three sites); I have the entire LCN entered in my PRO 96 and 97 and it seems to track well with the Site Three Control Channel attenuated (since I am usually nearer down town while monitoring mobile).

To honor earlier requests for ease of use, I am listing the LCN here by site. To enter the entire TRS just start with the first freq in slot 1 and continue until all 23 are entered (remember LCN #6 on Site three is a placeholder and there is, thus far, no indicated use for the last freq but it is on the license).

Hi Josh:

Sorry it took me so long to answer--it was exquisitely busy overnight!

Everything seems to be status quo at this point.... Sites One and Three are booming thru, I hear Site Four while driving to and from work. I have the sites entered into my 396 as separate systems, in the 96 and 97 they are entered as one system with 23 slots in the LCN.

I am toying with the idea that the last freq (
[FONT=&quot]LEX PSX-2/X 859.93750 (Clays Ferry)) might be a SCAT to cover along the Kentucky River--but haven't heard any control channel noise, even when sitting at Exit 99 and scrolling through everything. I have never heard a SCAT so I am not completely sure what I should hear... I just don't see that freq as not being used in the system some how. Universal Trunker (thanx Rick) has all the other freqs except the arbitrarily inserted 860.93750 in Site Three LCN #6 used. It still appears to be a simulcast system--I think Multicast is the correct term however--because almost all agencies on Site One are also on Site Three and Site Four. (Yes, I sometimes just sit somewhere with three different scanners tuned to different sites to confirm the transmissions...and then have to explain to the neighbors what I am doing, or listen to my vehicle being called in as suspicious because I haven't moved in a while!)

If you have room in your 396 you might put each site into a separate system and then assign them all the same quick key--mine tracks like a charm that way (thanx Alan)...

Let me know if you hear anything new!

Thanks UC!

I'll be taking a vacation from work next week, and I plan to be in Irvine pretty much all week, alternating between Winchester and Richmond as I'm hunting for a new job. I'll have my 396 and my little Pro-83 with me, so if I hear anything, expect a phone call. :)

Thanks again man!

Here's a link for SCAT, and it probably doesn't do anything until a radio affiliates. But not sure and have never heard a system with one.

Updated info:
It seems that LCN #3 on Virtual Site Three (3(1)-3c 858.437500) has become the current Control Channel for that site... if you are using a Rat Shack scanner and are not mobile and had earlier attenuated LCN #7 on Virtual Site Three (3(1)-7c 855.262500) then it is time to attenuate that one as well... it still tracks with my 96 and 97 when I am mobile... no problem with the 396 (each Virtual Site including all talk group id's is entered as a separate system using the same quick key).

Steve,

Gonna be coming through your area soon with 96 and 2096 on I-64 only. Is this new system what I need and which site would be best? I noticed the old Standard was updated also. Going west, I usually switch banks to Scott and Woodford. Is Scott Georgetown site running correctly as in DB?

When I get specific itinerary, (may need to fly over instead) we can try to set up a get together on our return trip if we drive.

Thanks for this great study of your new system.

Hi Frank...
You'll be driving thru in the middle of our easy bake oven season... Alas, the Old TRS is now history-if there are no objections, in fact, I'll probably take it out of the data base soon... The New TRS has become official with the dispatchers using the proper call sign (WQCJ588) when they do radio checks... As for programming, since all agencies are on Virtual Site One (which also has 113 km coverage from downtown), you should hear everything with that one plugged in.... I have the entire system in my 96 but have the other control attenuated so it is easier to monitor (I still monitor the whole system in the other two scanners to make sure I don't miss anything).

Georgetown is another story of late, with the Sadieville tower being more reliable... remember to plug in the Scott Co./Georgetown Conventional freqs as well since G-town/Scott Co. Fire use them for dispatch. I have had Sadieville plugged into the "first" set of slots in the bank where that system lives on the 97; Georgetown is plugged into the first set of slots on the 96, the 396 has them as separate systems and it tracks as well as can be expected.... I am hearing rumors still that the Stamping Ground tower is still in the works with the remaining five freqs slated for that part of the county, haven't confirmed this officially...

Will be so glad when the PSR 500 hits the streets to make it easier to track these two systems...

By the way, we had a grand ole bird visit the museum last week....

easy bake oven eh, guess we can afford a few cals. Thanks for the info, I do have Scott's conventionals and for that matter, Fayette and Lex conventionals in its bank. I will switch to Virtual Site One in the Lex bank.

Yes sir, that is a "grand ol bird". Got to ride with the Coast Guard in one of those  while stationed at NavSta Argentia Nfld in the year of our Lord 1957. They used them mostly chasing big ice cubes and of course, long range SAR. My flight was ice cube hunting. The Guard had three of them in Argentia. Talk about noise!!!

Thanks for the quick reply.

If there are no objections I am going to put the Old Lexington TRS on the retired list... I'll leave it up until Monday evening so anyone who wants one last historical .pdf download can grab one...

Unitcharlie,
Can you post the frequencies in use for Lexington TRS like you did in post #81 or are they the same?

ALSO: please help me refresh my memory, are these EDACS systems supposed to be place in a separate bank for each "site"?

I’m sorry, I have been so busy since my trip up that way, I forgot to report what I heard, but it was easy, I heard nothing on the TRS system at all, not even control channels. I was using my Pro 96 and an external magnetic antenna along I-64 to I-75 and I went back through Versailles to I-64 on my way back home. I will also be back up at EKU to move my daughter in on Thursday, hopefully, I can pick up Lexington during this trip

Sure can Ed:
If you program in the freqs for Virtual Site One you should hear everything, the system is multicast for some agencies, all agencies are on Site One... It is an EDACS system... this thing is laid out well, I have each site entered as a separte system in my 396 and never miss a beat with Lexington Fire... I have Site One programmed into my PRO 96 and it works well....

Awesome information and scanner sleuthing UnitCharlie.. I think NewsAlan had some part in it as well, so props to him! Thanks to everyone who submitted information.

I guess I'm going to have my work cut out for me after work.. Re-programming scanners again.. Haha..

Thanx.... but let me pass along kudos to all the folks who have helped conjure this thing as well, it wasn't easy sometimes, but the rr.com overcame and succeeded! Just hope everyone enjoys monitoring it...

Josh, do you have the 396 programming software, let me know which one and I'll send you the stuff for the area... remember in your Rat Shack scanners all you need is Site One and you'll hear it all, put the three sites into the 396 as separate systems with same quick key and you'll hear how it works if you are moving around (it is really well planned--I was on the river shooting a fire this morning listening and Site Four was booming right in when I couldn't hear the others).

Yeah I have ARC396 for the 396.

Ok, so for my triple trunkers, I just need to program in Virtual Site #1's frequency list, in LCN and those will be set. Correct?

Correct.... if you can spare the space enter each site in it's own bank or just enter Site One in one of the banks if you can't spare the room.... one of my .p96 files has the different sites entered as primary, it is amazing to listen to all over Central Kentucky. The LCN for each site is what is listed in post #96 or so....

Who'd have thought that nearly two and a half years ago we'd be this far along with this thread?

How large can my emails be to you... I have about a-hundred systems in different configurations.... most everything this side of I-65. :Let me crash for a few hours and I will send them tonight or tomorrow as I can get them to you.... just let me know which ones you want...
