• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello, I have seen that you can load encryption keys to APX radios through KFDtool with just a programming cable. Is this true? Every time I try, I get "Error -- A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because the connected host has failed to respond." In APX CPS, I have secure operation set to hardware and I created a key, at the bottom of the second attached image. In KFDtool, I selected DLI (IP) for type. I selected active keyset, SLN/CKR: DEC 14, Key ID 0000, algorithm AES-256, and generated a key. On the 8000, I went to the channel with the selected key. Any solutions? Thank you!

You need a keyloading cable which is different from a programming cable.
I appreciate the quick response! That’s all hardware needed? Do the settings look correct?

I've seen custom keyloading cables for KFDtool and I use a Hirose cable from my KFDtool to a Motorola Hirose keyloading adapter which fits the radio. Whatever you label the key in the KFDtool software it has to match whatever you programmed into CPS for the radio key ID for the specific personality. I'm not an expert but that's what I do and it works fine.

Alright, do you have links for the cables you use?

Your secure operation needs to be set to hardware. And the MACE needs to have the appropriate algorithms in it.

The ONLY method of software keyloading via DLI mode and OEM Porgramming cable is if the radios are BN, and if Advanced Encryption Standard is a flash option in the flashcodes of whatever radios you wanna do this with. Without the 2, your only option is to purchase a keyloader, OR KFD Keyloader device to keyload the radios.

It is an 8000 with SW-AES in the flash. I am not sure why I am getting the error then.

Nothing to do with anything, but what’s the need for encryption? Other than AES256 is “cool”.

Start with Secure Operation set to Hardware and then KVL - FIPS Level 3 Approved Mode set to Unchecked.

You will need to load your ADP keys using KFDTool to keep using them.

My settings are listed below and I use KFDTool to load Keys

Got all the CPS settings fixed. KFDtool still says error. I am on version 1.4.0 on a Windows laptop. Do you just use a programming cable? Any other settings I need to change in KFDtool? Connection port?
