The old Chopper Med Channel 44.740 still repeating here L+C on Maryland Eastern Shore.
Trooper 6 from MD and Trooper 4 from Delaware on scene Galena rd just 1 mile West of 301 Kent County MD.
Trooper 6 going to Shock trauma and Trooper 4 headed to Christiana.
It's not repeated as it is a direct channel from I *think* 3 selectable base stations. But it's still in use. Not sure of the protocol as to when / where it is used as there is also a tg on FIRST that can also be used - maybe because of the mutual aid from Delaware Trooper 4?

A lot of Area 4 units on Area 3 (7501) today. You can tell the difference in radios. However I was for sure that all of Area 4 was outfitted with newer radios and they just put the VHF frequencies in there for the time being. I’ve personally seen Area 4 officers with them. Hearing these transmissions reminds me of my days in P.G. when they transitioned to the current system they are on now. We were using both systems (UHF 494 - 495) until everyone had the newer radios. That “patch” between the two systems was hard to hear at times especally on a working fire.

In my experience with listening to 44.740 is that when you are near a counties communications center you’ll hear it loud and clear

As far as the talkgroup, it’s a shame you listen to it state wide. Let’s hope they keep 44.7400 around !

I going to amend my statement " I *think* 3 selectable base stations" to just about every tower site at a state police barracks and many other sites are licensed for 44.74 - including out of state locations. Five pages worth of tower sites in the FCC database, lol.

Perhaps. An antenna 500 - 1000' AGL is going to have some range and being close to a comms center that has a 44.74 capability is going to be hot. Every couple of weeks I hear 44.74 in use - it could be way more often. It is a simplex channel and not repeated.

I believe DNR uses dual band APX7000 radios, VHF and 7/800. @Dispatcher308 would know for sure.

Thats what I saw too, but I wasn’t hearing that today. It sounded like their VHF radios being patched in OR using those radios and using what we know as the old VHF channels. I’m sure for most they either don’t know or care as long as they can get out and be heard.

If they are using a VHF channel on the APX, it would route through DNR's VHF infrastructure and then "patched" to the 700 talk group somewhere, probably the console. Using a legacy VHF radio or an APX on a VHF channel would sound essentially the same.

Amending my posts again regarding the 44.74 Syscom / 47.66 Helimed sites. Licenses for 44.74 are being renewed as they expire, so I expect 44.74 to be around for a while. There are 10 Syscom sites and 7 Helimed sites according to old posts here in the RR forums and MIEMSS website.

If anyone is interested, below is a plot of the seven MIEMSS Helimed sites intended for statewide airborne coverage. There is also a 47.5 MHz channel co-licensed with the sites, but not 47.44.resize Helimed 47'66.png

Did search up my way Northeastern Maryland on 44.74 and seems State radio tower at Northeast State Police barracks Rte 40 as KGG903.
Says first used in 1990 and renews every 10 years with last renewal being in 2015.Regulatory status has as Interconnected.
Prob why it comes in so strong here South of Elkton.

I was working on the 44.74 licensing, sifting through the five pages of call signs. I focused on the licenses that list MIEMSS as the control point, but that ends up short by two sites. That means that several other sites used by SYSCOM are probably not licensed "correctly," and will be fixed when they are renewed. Maybe.

Tonight makes the first night I’ve ever heard MDE using radios let alone on the First System.

It was on TG 8024 MDE ERD Ops Emergency Response Division Ops 4

He clearly states in one of his transmissions that he’s clearing Frederick County and returning back. Wherever “back” is and assuming these are the blue colored commercial vehicles with a ton of lights ? The dispatcher sounded crisp and clear. Assuming they are EMRC ?

MEMA/MDEM/MJOC at night

Their Office during the the day
