Guess old Doc inbound for Dover airshow early but seems in between it does some money
making flights. Prob takes a lot of money to keep it flying..
Interesting history and where it got its name.... Doc (aircraft) - Wikipedia

....

Been watching Doc72 on Ads-B doing flights all around ABE the past few days. Not sure why Flightaware calls it "Norsk Luftambulanse" and operated by "Helidoc" though. Great story how it was recovered from the desert and rebuilt piece by piece. They actually have a live cam in it's home hangar: Live Video: Inside the B-29 Doc Hangar, Education & Visitors Center

Flightaware lists callsign prefix for Norsk Luftambulanse as DOC so assume every time that DOC ## callsign pops up on their software it shows
that as the Airline or service.

Mark is correct - DOC three letter code is still valid but I guess the B29 crew decided to throw that in the callsign block.
Since Norsk Luftambulanse only flys helicopters in Norway and Denmark - I doubt they care about someone misusing the ICAO code.
In some places in the world like Africa and Asia duplicate codes are used so not the first time or last it will happen.

I heard DOC/B-29 fly over this morning. I was getting caught up with last night's late Stanley Cup action when I heard those engines. I had ADS-B set for military so it didn't show, and by the time I actually went outside to see what was making that racket he'd passed over and I couldn't see it. I went back in and took the filter off ADS-B and proceeded to start kicking myself. Looking forward to having a close encounter with it this weekend in Dover. I don't think they can do paid rides from an Air Force Base, can they?

Show gates open at 9 a.m. and flight performances begin at 11:30 a.m.

It will probalby depart the 21st based on its next tour site. B-29 Doc and B-25 Berlin Express will arrive in Cincinnati at Lunken Airport Tuesday, May 21

Took a ride down to KABE to see Doc before he left yesterday. I saw Fifi a few years ago so this completes the set. What a beautiful bird. Unfortunately by the time I got there they had stopped the ground tours but it was still great to see him.

So jealous, I want to go up for the show, but I can't afford the trip after Cherry Point.
Wx forecast for Dover airshow is lousy for Saturday anyway but maybe Sunday ok.
F-35 demo is the only hot Dover demo anyway.. Not one of Dover's best airshow lineups.
I think you just saw the best area airshow at Cherry Point so far this year.

10+ years ago Fifi stopped at KMRB with ground and cockpit tours. That was one I made sure I didn't miss out on.

Guys

Looks like tomorrow 3-5PM one NJ ANG F-16 will come down to BWI, make several passes in the BWI area then head back home. I'm guessing it has something to do with Northrop Grumman, but just guessing.
closest I could find news wise

I had the opportunity to photograph Fifi last year at Reading's World War II Weekend (which is an incredible event coming up in a few weeks, June 7-9). It looks like Fifi will be back this year for "A Gathering of Warbirds" as well as a number of other vintage military aircraft.

The Mid Atlantic Air Museum

I'll talk to the Doc crew and try to find out when they're departing Dover so I can hopefully photograph the takeoff.

Here's Fifi last year at Reading:

So, who to believe, Week Ahead had him going from ATL to Detroit to WH, but FAA Safety Notices have him going from ATL to Philly then Wilmington. We just need to wait and see. Boston is for the 21st.

Reading this reminded me of back wen (years ago) there used to be a several times a week Beech (NASA 8)--- they would shuttle between DC (Reagan) and Wallops.
