Don't know who Red Dog is.. Tac callsign?
After decommissioning, the ship will be towed on October 16th to the Navy’s Inactive Ship’s facility in Philadelphia, Pa., where it will be in a Logistical Support Asset status.Definitely off-topic as far as aviation, but I thought there might be some interest in this ship that passed by New Castle at 11am local this morning. The USS Leyte Gulf is a guided missile cruiser that was launched in 1986, and decommissioned just over a month ago in Norfolk. It was being towed by a huge chain from the vessel Gary Chouest with the much smaller tug Annabelle Dorothy Mo bringing up the rear. In my MarineTraffic app the two service ships were tracked but the Leyte Gulf was not, I guess because it was not under power. I did not see anyone on that ship, either. I’m assuming the navy yard in Philadelphia is the final destination.
