To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi, I am new here and I am searching for information of how to make/wire a multi ptt headset (3 button) and how to program the kenwood NX-200 to work with such headset.
Any pointers on where to find this info would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Everything you need is on the 14 pin side connector. Get an old speaker mic and cannibalize the connector.

Pin 7 is PTT
Pin 10 is ground

Connect pin 7 to pin 10 and the radio will transmit. No additional programming required.

Hi MMcKenna, thanks for your reply, but I am trying to make a 3 button multi ptt headset for Kenwood radios, we use them in Racing, button1 = ch1, button 2=ch2, button 3=ch3. I use multi PTT with motorola but I do not know how with Kenwood and would like a helping hand from anyone who does. Thanks again for your input.

Not sure how you would go about that. There is some serial communications that can be done to the radio to switch channels, but that's a complex application and would require an outboard driver to make it happen.

The PF keys on the mic (there are two) can be set up to select channels directly. You'd need to trigger that PF key and use a timer to key up after the channel had been changed. Not sure how you'd make it do 3 channels, though.

Would be much easier with a mobile radio as it has more inputs.

Portables have the option, but it involved opening up the radio and making connections inside. That would require the radio to be permanently mounted in the car. Making that work isn't easy and not something I'd attempt to explain in a chat board like this.
