Vernoa EDACS - BOE

We are no longer using low band for anything. The rescue squad has their vhf frequency patched into their dispatch talk group. Only a handful of members were issued NJICS radios, so the squad bought a bunch of Kenwood portables so they can still be in contact with dispatch.
Pinnacle is working on the fire department as we speak so EDACS won't be up much longer.

Taking this all into consideration with Verona's change over to the NJICS from their EDACS system. What is the situation with their BOE talkgroups on the "old" EDACS system. If the system is to become depreciated soon, where has or is the BOE gone/or going to?

BoE has not been on the EDACS for several years. I believe that they went back to their old vhf frequency. I'll try and confirm that.

The only thing I could find with Verona BOE is an UHF allocation 467.2125
6 watts, 1 unit looks like for paging, Call sign: WQQU527.

Yes, I was going to ask about that. Is Union County EMS/FD actually considering keeping those conventional frequencies in use full time?

Yes, because there are agencies which do not want to convert. Though they should! :D (Takes Cover)

Only reason I like NJICS is being able to hear things I could not before but then you have the fact that NJICS sounds crappy at times.

I agree there were issues with clarity before, but ever since the work was performed on West Orange and some tweaks to the Union County Simulcast, I really don't have any complaints for the most part. I did have the opportunity last month thanks to a member of service to compare an authorized in-service Motorola APX-4500 to the BCD536HP and BCD996P2. As I expected the areas the scanner had issues receiving the ICS on West Orange, the transceiver did not. So some of your issues are probably a combination of location and scanners being what they are.

Again, however, I admit my bias also as I'm a proponent of centralized dispatch, or at the least a centralized communications system.

FWIW btw, I do however believe that the couple of Union County municipalities who are on the fence but leaning will be persuaded if their grant applications are approved.

Sounds fine to me with an APX. So really, it's your scanner that sounds crappy, not the system.

Fire is still simulcasting on lowband. Just heard a call tone out on both 470.300 and 33.78. Lowband was perfect (as always; full quieting). I quit monitoring the EDACS system a while ago but the fire page heard on 470.3 sounded like it was still part of that system.

Bleh who needs it!

I would like to know who has gotten monitoring of the NJICS to work on their APX's because I keep getting mixed reviews...

OK, 33.780 is back in the DB for Verona as Fire Dept Alerting (Lo). It's unlicensed but found the old call sign under KEE909 - Circa 1982? and it may have had a PL tone of 127.3 but not sure, so left as CSQ for now in DB.

That will be turned off very soon. The EDACS will also be turned off , as the fire department is officially on NJICS as of this evening.

Will FD be fully simulcast like VRS currently is? I'm more interested in FD and EMS than PD anyway for Verona, and it will be quite a while until I can justify the cost of a Phase 2 radio.

So long as "790" stays on VHF-Hi I'll be a happy camper.

That will be turned off very soon... All fine and well, however, once the OFF switch has been finally thrown and confirmed, those frequencies will indeed be marked depreciated and or deleted. For now and "the short term" they stay:wink:!

Thanks

Not sure about the fire department, but rescue will simulcast permanently. Rumor also has it that instead of a patch for Essex fire mutual aid, the county may get a dedicated talk group for all county fire departments to use. We shall see.

Slapshot...I had an authorized APX6000 on the system in my previous assignment. The W Orange Simulcast was primary and I had ZERO issues. That little sucker picked up all over Essex, Union, Passaic, Morris, Hudson, and Bergen county. Watchung was also part of the simulcast back then so it rarely affiliated to other sites. I did force a site search for coverage testing and always found another site in the area which provided coverage as well (Randolph in Morris, Ramapo in Bergen, Union in Essex, etc) so even if W Orange went down I would still be able to affiliate to another site. But the radio really liked that W Orange Simulcast because it always switched back. Sound quality was excellent.

Mark I heard the same literally an hour ago, but my source said it would be set up similar to Union where UHF users come over the 700 TG and NJICS users on the talkgroup come over UHF.

That wouldn't matter. Coverage and audio would be the same. You are just calling up the trunked talk group from a conventional channel scanning a trunked talk group scan list. The system information doesn't change.

The new Long Branch Site 139 is broadcasting using CC 774.53125 with adjacent sites of Holmdel, Neptune and Freehold. They were testing on TG 4575 and 4577 today. Also noted some encryption use on 4575 which is probably going to be their channel 1 but it was only from one Long Branch radio and a REMU radio.
