One of the largest terrorism targets in the U.S. is NYC. They’ve also had officers shot and killed just sitting in their patrol cars ambushed. And they have a heck of a lot more shootings than Roselle Park or Linden, etc. Yet they run dispatch in the clear. So if any small town PD Chief is using that as justification, that can easily be disputed at any Town board meeting during public comments. I do believe encryption has its purpose and I’ll take Tenafly for example that just came on to NJICS. They have dispatch clear but an encrypted channel as well for situations that justify it (surveillance, barricaded subject, alarm codes or hidden key locations to get to a patient, etc). But I don’t want to get off topic. Some of these agencies will chose to go ENC because they can and feel free to contact your town board members and ask for answers

Tenafly has always had an encryption on their main channel that they turn on and off. I believe they went to this system as the ON A was filing a safety issue as the radios did not work into their repeater when they were up on 9w I believe that may be the reason this PSIC is patched into Tenafly s high band repeater and as PIP NJSP and NJDOT radios all work on 9w. Glad to see the communication issue is being addressed for them. Nothing like a fatal accident when the radios can't hit the repeater and cell phones don't work either

Should be noted in the Union County area that Roselle Park Borough Council meets at 7:30pm tonight. Just saying... :D

oh yeah, I am sure "the public" can convince the Roselle Park Police Dept to scrub the idea of "going secret" with their comms after they spent the extra $$$ to enable E... and they see the need to hide all of their comms.

No, but it would be nice to see a Borough Council that has had HUGE issues with transparency and OPRA violations made uncomfortable from the comments.

Back On Topic: More Springfield ID's on 4627.

I agree with you 100%.. while I'm not in the immediate area or not involved in Roselle Park at all.. I would love to know the thinking behind a small Police Department in a small community with these kind of demographics and crime rate as to why they need to keep all Communications secret from the General Public and why and how they can substantiate the extra money spent on the equipment to do so

It’s now a fact. Township of Union (Union County) is switching to the NJICS sometime after January 2nd.. This is for all services and departments. Evidence? I physically held one of their APX’s today.

My town just switched to our county p25 4 square miles and the PD went encrypted!
Also I wonder why when the state created this system each county didn’t just jump on. Would make a lot more $ense instead of all these separate county and individual town systems IMO

Well that was quick! But easier to hear them now.

After January 2nd could be March, no exact date was given in the discussion.

Any idea if they will be in the clear or if they will be totally encrypted?

Mixed indications, to be seen.

I haven't programmed then all, but 4619, 4621, 4623 as 1, 2, 3 are confirmed fireground channels.

Thanks,

All 10 firegrounds have been added to the database. I see Union Fire was also added, but I would jest that someone jumped the gun on that unless they have better information than I do. Not sure what their TG assignment is yet.

One thing I'm struggling to get any intel on is Mountain Valley's plans. I know Millburn/New Providence/Summit love their operation, but I question how long they'll be able to hold out. It seems the rest of Union County is finally falling in line.

Copy. I reached out to one of mine right before they were posted up but didn’t hear back as fast.

Do we know how these are going to be assigned ? Asking based upon previous RID affiliations posted, for example Scotch Plains on FG2, Springfield on FG3...
