FCC does not issue WACN... That is assigned by the Vendor to the system as part of the unique digital identification of the system and is also used for control of system access.

The call sign I was looking at is WQKJ970. After drilling down through the FCC database, it looks like the freqs have been around for a while and were originally for Kenton County Sanitation. I also noticed they all use emission designator 20k0f3e which is definitely not right for a P25 phase 2 system. So, unless anyone sees something else I'm missing, I suspect these are for something other than the new radio system.

I have put in a lot of 800 frequencies like those for SD1 and the former Campbell Co EDACS system frequencies, not a peep so far.

Does anyone know what the hold up on getting frequencies is? I'll let you all know if I ever hear something.

You will also want to check around in the 700 MHz spectrum. I have been hearing some activity in that range.

I am a little surprised to only see four frequencies for Campbell County. I personally feel like six frequencies per county really isn't enough, we'll see what happens. They could also pull 800 MHz frequencies from other systems I guess.

Even when operating primarily in Phase II mode they should at least plan for the possibility that a few of those frequencies could go down to Phase I in a disaster situation when Phase I radios from other departments could affiliate to the system. Also the control channel is always Phase I so that only gives Campbell County 6 Phase II traffic channels and 3 Phase I traffic channels.

Again this system is at the very beginnings of the RF stage so we will see how it plays out.

The applications haven't been approved yet but that normally doesn't take too long. I believe all the equipment is already in place so as soon as the licenses are granted they should be able to get the system on the air and start testing.

Apps are usually approved within 48 hours most times currently. Exceptions include weekends, holidays, and shutdowns. Compared to about a year ago when there was a minimum 30 day backlog.

From information received on another forum, it sounds like they are still working on two more frequencies for Campbell County. My guess is they pushed these applications through so they can get the sites on the air and start testing before the leaves fall off the trees.

I heard testing on Kenton County site this morning.
I also heard though the grape vine that the system is on hold due to some type of legal issues on the Indiana tower. No time frame of when it will come on line. Keeps getting pushed back.
