KE5 fixed,,... Hugh,.. might be iether your getting a hit off another tower and not realizing it.. or maybe an mirror image . ort hey are still finishing the transition.. But no way should you get two active CC's from ONE site, its just not possible.... You may have the Union Church tower on mirror, or the North Jefferson tower..... Being that there is massive overlap..... If your getting it when the other is off then it makes it an alt.... but cant have two activeat same time on same tower

Incidentally, still get a hit on freq. 764.78125c at this tower location, but it is not showing up on Pro96Com, but it is definitely coming from this tower site---Any thoughts about what's going on here????

Intermod, birdie, some kind of false reception......the output license is for 769-775. That's what PRO96COM is telling us too. Anything out of that range is most likely irrelevant.

Ok set down this morning to play with the GPS stuff and it's downloading into freescan :) BUT...

Now we need to come up with range info. I did some quick measuring in MapSource just now and the greatest distance between sites I could find was about 28 miles. (Wiggins S. and Vancleave.) So I'll throw out 14 miles MAX as a good place to start. Maybe 12 miles in general.

I never fooled with GPS stuff until now so I don't know if one generalized distance would be good enough for every site or if it will need to be adjusted accordingly on a per region basis.

Range of the signal is what this refers to I believe unless you just want to set up the ten mile area circle thingy like the AWIN map has.... General range of the signal is around 30 miles at 100/110 watts. So if you have all the sites within 20 miles of each other you get full overlapping coverage, maybe a few weak areas... But thats expected with ANY system... Anyone that claims to have 99% or 100% everywhere is lying. There are variances in signal due to terrain, weather, and yes, pine trees LOL. But in general at say 100 foot, with 100 watts, on 700/800 MHz you should get excellent signal at out to 30 miles, with at least a bit of signal at up to 50 miles. Now here is the rub, with digital, you have to have an great signal or you wont get out on voice, thus the need for iether more power, or shorter ranges. Hence the under 30 distance between towers and the massive overlap. In real bad terrain you need both

Yeah I understand all that. The ranges I'm talking about are for the automated site switching in GPS controlled scanners. Which is what I believe the intent of the DB data is more geared towards. But I could be wrong. Obviously it could be interpreted either way.

If the max theoretical range was used though a scanner using GPS would be scanning numerous sites simultaneously some of which it would be receiving poorly if at all. While a tighter range would reduce that.

Off to do some more hunting now....:)

Speaking of doing more hunting I have been reading through RFP # 3603 for the next build out for the MWIN and found something on pg 39 I wanted to share with all and that is that Motorola is suppling radios that will operate in two different modes, initially Project 25 (FDMA) frequency division multiple access mode which it is being used now and in anticipation of an FCC narrowbanding mandate by the year 2017 the state will be able to switch the system over to operate (TDMA) time division multiple access which I beleive is a form of digital communications that is used by the cell phone industry and then P25 will no longer be used on the MWIN system. Has anyone got any thoughts on this I mean it took years before Uniden came out with a digital capable radio I would hate to go back to the waiting game for several more years.

As of now the system is P-25 which we all can monitor.. By the time 2017 rolls around, there will be a way to monitor any new formats.... It is my understanding that the TDMA is for the cellular aspect which is Cellular South's aspect of the MSWIN. Primarily interconnect (Cellular) and secure data... Though if the new digital of 2017 and beyond does happen to be TDMA, then we all cross that bridge when the time comes... As far as the digital trunking I have no knowledge yet of what the next APCO Phase is beyond P-25.... I would not panic yet at all.

XTS / XTL radios

I wish I new, I have not had a chance to catch a glimpse of a portable yet except the video of the Governor testing the system last weekend and what he used did not look like an XTS anything to me. I went to the Motorola web site and found that moto has some new radios out the APX 7000 portable which is capable of working in FDMA and TDMA formats and a APX 7500 mobile but I could not pull up any spec's on this one. I did notice that the frequency range for xmit is 764-776 and 794-806 and the receiver is only 764-776 which tells me that all of the repeater outputs for the MWIN will be in the 764-776 range which narrows things down as far as search ranges to listen for with the upper range for the repeater inputs.
I also need to correct something in the post I left yesterday about the FDMA & TDMA on second thought I believe the transmissions will remain in P25 until something else comes along as was pointed out but the difference is that TDMA is another form of modulation just as AM , FM, wide FM, USB, LSB are different animals so as long as that can be a format that the scanners can operate on all should be ok. But I if you go to the Wireless Commision website and read pg 39 of RFP 3603 it says the state can change over to TDMA anytime after system deployment and it has nothing to do with cell phones. So we shall have to go with what we have now and hope things stay as they are.

Been studying and reading anything I can find the last couple days. Found this mentioned in the June meeting minutes. So that explains Fountainbleau, which I had kinda imagined was the case already.

"Mr. Roach shared that MSWIN will be adding the Fountainbleau site to provide extra coverage out into the Gulf for Marine Resources and anyone else out in the coastal area."

So the phase 1 tally of sites is 45 by my count.

38 leased sites owned by ToM (all the sites on the map with triangles.)
6 Mississippi Wireless Communications Commision owned sites.
1 co-located site. (Fountainbleau)

The sites listed as owned by the MWCC can be found by searching the FCC ASR database for FCC ID L01412109 (17 sites total phases 1 and 2 at this point)

Also I have confirmed ToM was awarded the contract for phases 2 and 3. Actually it was awarded to them twice. The original award was rescinded and the RFP was reissued. ToM was still awarded the contract the 2nd time on August 24.

The licenses for the microwave portion of the system can be found by searching for FRN 0017905407 in the ULS search engine.

Being the stickler for details that I am I'm having a bit of a quandry in deciding the name for a site I couldn't get close enough to to read the placard. The reason I couldn't get close enough is that it is located inside a fenced in field adjacent to the south wall of the South Mississippi Correctional Institution near Leakesville and I didn't really want to draw the attention of the tower guards by approaching the radio tower. LOL

This is one of the 6 MWCC owned towers mentioned in the previous post. There is another near Stateline that I was able to read easily and that one's name is "MDOT Wayne". (Wayne county) So I'm wondering if the other MWCC owned towers follow some such similar naming scheme. The tower in Doloroso is another of these 6 towers so I'm wondering if it accesible enough that hugh could get a read on the placard posted at that site. (If there even is one.) One of the ToM sites I recently visited was missing all the placards that have been on every other site they've built so either they totally forgot to hang any of them(kinda hard to believe) or someone stole them. LOL

So anyway I'm torn between naming the site "MDOT Greene" or "Greene County". Maybe even "MDOC Greene" given it's location. LOL

Off to shop for more powerful binoculars now.......LOL

Doloroso.... and given who heads the MWCC... I bet thats the regional Correction Center. Lets just say that this confirms the MDOC will be on it, and the old EDACS is going away.... And that there WILL be other MDOC MWIN sites.... Any takers on Parchmann, ??? LOL Good Ole Boy politics,.. hidden, but alive and well... OK as far as Doloroso, I need the updated info after the realignment.. New Site Number etc... Prolly have an MDOC name.. Or it may be the MDOT site.

Hinds County has MSWIN site

Can't report anything new on Doloroso, but would you take a Jackson/Hinds Co. update.....figured you would!

Hinds County Site 145/Tower 12D

769.41875, 769.66875, 769.91875, 770.16875 & 770.41875cc

Unfortunately I couldn't get a visual on the tower, but it certainly wasn't for lack of trying. The signal is strong all over the Metro area, but I'm sure the tower is located in the Terry to Raymond, possibly Clinton area. Everybody hold on to your seats, I think this things finally about to take off!!!!

Hind Co. MSWIN site

If you can find somebody in the Jackson area to do an audio feed of the system, it would probably be the simplest way to do it. All of the active talk groups from around the state are being broadcast in the Jackson area, including AirMed. Sounded really cool!!!

No active sites to report in the Copiah Co. area, however. Will keep advised.
