Yeah it doesn't take a genius to look at a map of site locations and see portable coverage isn't going to be that great in a lot of areas. ESPECIALLY in building coverage. It doesn't usually take long to determine if a given unit is using a portable too from the transmission quality. Hear it a lot from MDOT Enforcement units too. Especially District B which I think is still all portables.
The first few days of an agency going live are some of the best times to ID stuff too. They may announce what channel they are on, or which one they want to switch to etc. Always a great time to be running Pro96Com too, to catch some channel flipping sessions. I've found many a TG that way, a lot of which are yet to actually be used to this day. Many of those are Zone/Region 3 area TG's that don't even have service yet. There can be a few LOL moments in the mix sometimes too.
Every MHP Troop has started out on portables, with a few exceptions in the higher ranking officers, A's, R's and U's maybe. Can't count the times I heard K Troops being instructed to report to the radio shop to get their mobiles installed during the first few weeks after they went live. As far as I know, pretty much every Troop that's now on MSWIN, but G and H, should all have both now. H may even be getting close to all having both by now. Another MHP quirk is that all dispatch locations started out on actual radios too and last I saw a few weeks ago Jackson dispatch was still using a radio and not a dispatch console. The RID's for a radio vs a console are very different. Radios are 6 digits and conoles are 7 digits.
The previously unidentified MMD 13585 talkgroup is aliased as "MMD ICC" (Incident Command Center). I worked with the Nat. Guard comms guys today and I got this info directly from one of their new APX7000's
They said they use it for admin functions. KE5TLF had it near-perfectly identified in a recent post.
Now it's confirmed. I have already submitted a database correction.
Well I guess that makes sense. Right there on the air the whole time too. I can't remember exactly how it went during the oil spill, but I want to say this one was the lesser used of them all back then. Ah well, mystery solved now. Much thanks for tying up that loose end
Oh yeah almost forgot.
Wiggins PD came out from under it's cloak of encrypted TDMA usage and switched over to the PD 1 channel for the hurricane, which appears to remain unencrypted and TDMA free too. Like I've said before they are WCC guinea pigs, and I'm fairly sure the encryption and TDMA stuff there is the WCC's choice and not Wiggins.
And whilst on the topic of TDMA all F&W TAC 6 comms were TDMA today. Their in the clear channels all remain FDMA so far.
Also caught a single hit on the MDOT Jackson TG 22011 that was TDMA too.
All that on site 118 (Vancleave)
