Hmm, no idea. Don't think I've ever encountered anything similar in my region. Though testing protocols may have evolved since the days zone 1 sites were being brought online, which was several years ago now. Keep us updated.

Just kind of taking it all in
My son is on the Lamar County VFD. They recently got their Digital radios. When I had him key it up I wasn't picking up anything on the MSWIN frequencies which I thought was interesting. However, I did a signal stalker for the Trunked Public Safety 700MHz frequencies and it stopped on 774.996875. It stopped on that frequency reguardless of being on Dispatch or Tac 1 or 2. They have 5 Tac channels. That is as far as we could get without him getting into trouble. Any insight or help would be appreciated.

774.996875 is a base freq, not a mobile, so not a repeater input in other words. Could be either a direct(talk around) channel or a image of the actual input freq. I see all your 700 capable radios are GRE based and they are notorious for images in the 700 band. TAC/Fireground channels are quite often set up for direct mode usage too. So that may well explain not hearing those on the repeater.
774.996875 is also a 6.25 kHz channel which would indicate TDMA so only your PSR-800 would stand a chance of actually hearing anything. BUT from some brief skimming about using TDMA for direct mode it is a complicated process that still has many details to be worked out and thusly FDMA(12.5kHz) channels are used for that mode if I'm reading correctly.
Best way to approach this, without drawing any attention, is to just log the site with Pro96Com and flip channels. No need to key up, just watch the affiliations log and if his radio, and in turn the channels in it, are designated to use the repeater it will show up on that tab. If the TAC/FG channels are indeed setup for direct mode usage then you'll need to key up to find those as you've attempted already.
I assume you're both in or around West Hattiesburg and are indeed on the Lamar County tower, but if not be sure to check the other towers too. Rock Hill for the Purvis area, Poplarville North down south, and Columbia East for the northwest part of the county.

A quick observation concerning MFC Wiggins and it's usage of TDMA.
I've seen, on several occasions now, FDMA usage on the Benndale and Vacleave sites, that doesn't involve Fountainbleau(still FDMA only) so it seems there is at least one other, if not more, site(s) in the Southeast region that continue to be FDMA only too.

I monitor the Jones Ellisville Tower almost 24/7. I haven't heard Any of the Jones units talking and I'm using a wildcard.
I'll try to touch base with one of the Communications personnel this week and see if they have the equipment and or any knowledge of the upgrade.
I know that Jones County is in a bind for radio transmitter facilities. They say there are no spare parts for the current 800 SMR system. Be we know that you can always find spare if you want to.

I have not heard any JCSO units but LPD, EPD, LFD, and JCVFD is still on there.

Jones County's radio woes, and them joining MSWIN is well documented. It's still "should" be several months before it happens though.

Sheriff Hodge ( Jones County) states in the video that 1700 users, now the SO alone is not that meany, I know VFD are still on Analog, Laurel PD, and Ellisville.
Maybe the sheriff and county are the only ones going digital. I do know they made a big deal when jones county all went to a central dispatch how it would help all agencies communicate which it has; so if they do that a believe they will be going back in Jones County.

I use a Radio Shack PRO 106 and 197. They work great on MSWIN here in Hattiesburg.

Yes, and I'm in regular contact with him. When Jones County actually starts showing up on MSWIN it won't go unoticed.

PSR-800 firmware has been offcially released since then, and is really the only sensible choice available for anyone buying a new scanner at the moment. Uniden is moving at a snails pace getting a TDMA scanner to market. Hopefully that eventually ends up being a good thing in that maybe they'll surprise us with some other digital format(s) as well. Only time will tell.
