I am still receiving traffic on Lincoln County S.O. primary channel on my two way radio, they may have a talkgroup on MSWIN but I also pick em up on high band--I have most of the state so when I go to those parts I will let you know if I receive traffic.

Sounds like about half of the SO's etc that have added MSWIN capabilities are also simulcasting on their VHF repeaters. To the guy that submitted the info on Lincoln SO, check to be sure you have the correct tones etc as you may not be hearing them due to tone switch after narrowbanding.

Its a midterm election year, of course this will become a political football. Why politicians have to play with things like this amazes me. Like my cousin always said, "The way the rest of the folks in the senate act, I'd like to take a switch to them all." And he was a long time state senator in that circus, now he's an public service commissioner, so doesn't have to deal with those clowns on an daily basis.

Just a question to all of our VFD and Volunteer first responders, who spend a lot of there own monies and give there valuable time to help keep our communities safe.
Would the used fee be passed on to them.

The fee would apply to the agency that wants radios on the system. What the agency decides to do is up to that agency. If an VFD has the ability to cover it without going to each member for fees, then that is awesome. but from experience with 2 VFD's, that is very rare. They can apply for grants which a lot do, but it all depends on so many factors. Back when I first got involved on an VFD, all they could afford to supply me with, was an badge, an pager, turn outs, and a cute lil mag mount teardrop strobe light. At that time, they could not afford to buy any more radios. I bought my own used mobile, and an new HT. For about 3 months, only the chief, assistant chief, myself and one other guy had HT's. (I also puchased my own wig wags, deckblasters, and siren.) By the time I left, they had gotten multiple grants and were purchasing not only enough mobiles, and HT's for 40 volunteers, but also multiple new apparatus, and opening an second station. Compared to some things an volunteer has to dish out for, $200.00 an year for seamless, secure communications statewide, with ability to talk to multiple states etc, is not really that big a bite. Thats assuming the volee doesn't have to buy the radio first as the type that work on MSWIN... Are not cheap.

I'm sure they are not cheap, plus if something happens to the radio it's up to the owner to get the radio repaired, which is another added expense.

This had been my argument with this all along--I had to pay for my portable and mobile radio and the programming--I was able to do so so it's not that big of a deal. When the powers to be mentioned first responders they left VFD's out of the list. We will see what happens. I can't afford to buy a fancy radio that will work on the 700 MSWIN system.

Google Earth MSWIN Map

I have the basic GE mapping for the MSWIN based on the FRN. I can send it to anyone that wants to play with it and add coverage ranges, and add in the Jones County site, future Forrest County Site... etc....

Jones Site is online. Not sure if it is full wide area trunking yet, but it is up and running. We wil know more about transition status to MSWIN for the County Agencies after the MSWIN User Fee meeting tomorrow. Forrest County's transition is literally hanging on this meeting. Could also play a factor in Lee County, and others moving forward to MSWIN transition.

I have not heard anything yet. I will see what I can dig up. I have been busy trying to get this job, and dealing with weather issues up here. :)

OK so far on Jones County - JCSO is not live yet, still on the analog, FD's are also still on the analog, Municipal PD's are moving on currently, as are County Schools. So far all TG's are reported using Phase II TDMA modulation. With the amount of users for JC, this makes sense. Odds are that if the FC switch fully happens, they will be TDMA also.

PSR-800 or the new Unidens..... Just be aware of multiple buggy issues with the new Unidens..... And coming out in short order the new Whistler GRE re branded version of the PSR-800, and its never produced big sister, PSR-900.... Labeled as the WS 1080 ( PSR 800 )
WS 1095 (PSR 900)

Searching for frequency

I live in Corinth, MS. The city police dept are using new radios, 700mhz i think. I can not find them on the scanner though. Does anyone know the input frequency they use? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
