Until the upgrade actually happens, it is an guessing game as there are too many folks that will tell disinformation to us because they really aren't in the know, or got told wrong info themselves. I don't foresee 100% encryption , as the Rankin agencies that use MSWIN now, are not 100% encrypted. Yes, tacticals and possibly even talk's for the SO and other LEA's will be encrypted. Fire, I don't think so. If anyone would truly have need for it, it would be Pearl PD, and so far, not happening full time in any way. On other notes, Warren is in talks to join, and the new sites for Camp Shelby have probable locations found. New site or sites also in works for Madison County, though they are rather vague about intentions , saying MSWIN just might be their system in the future..... Yep, December MWCC Minutes online at last.

Another note about Rankin.. It will be an LSM so be ready for multipath distortion unless you are very close to on of the sites... Or upgrade to BCD436/536HP's.... Or one of the SW1080/1095's and play with the ADG settings.

Side note, for you Firefighters out there... Clinton FD is hiring right now.

OK, Wide Area Trunked Radio 101 for ya.

On an wide area TRS especially Statewide systems like the MSWIN, you could potentially hear anyone anywhere and here is why: Any radio that has not been Zone/Site limitied can affiliate with any site on the system. Once an radio has affiliated it will allow any other radio or scanner etc that is monitoring that site to hear the traffic on the TG's programmed into that radio. It doesn't even have to be the current TG in use by that radio.

The 03-13xx and 03-20xx prefixes catch a lot of traffic as they are Encrypted slots.

Seems MFC Southeast Region has gotten everyone Phase II radios now. Haven't heard any FDMA traffic from them for several days in a row now.

Also logged a handful of TDMA grants on the MDOT Dispatch channel over the last couple of days. JUST a handful, out of hundreds of FDMA grants. Not a huge surprise, G & H Car-Car has been showing up off and on for a long time as TDMA, but still the first time I recall seeing TDMA on the Dispatch channel. (not that I really look very often any more.)

Oh yeah and the FAA studies for the 3 Camp Shelby sites...

Finally got Pro96 up and running. Nice program.

03's are TDMA slots. Most certainly Jones County, possibly some F&W thrown in too. (not that they aren't also encrypted, which of course most of Jones also is)

....and of course a day or two after changing the DB a bunch of FDMA grants start showing up....albeit the first I've seen in probably two solid weeks of eardrum shattering TDMA hell....grrrr

As we now know they are TDMA capable, the T can stay. All it means is TDMA capable. It doesn't mean full time TDMA usage. Though in the near future, that very well may be what most state agencies are using full time. Speaking of state agencies, anyone know when MDOC is finally going to jump on?

The T means it won't be downloaded into a non-TDMA scanner, which is MOST important. Just like an E won't be downloaded into anything. Not without going out of your way to explicitly tell a given program (FreeScan, WIN500, whatever...) to include encrypted TGIDs. That one letter means a lot more that just "capable", it affects the way the data is transferred between the DB and ALL of all the various software programs too.

While I'm here, in case anyone was listening and wondering what all the "this is a drill" bidness on GCI 1 and 2 was yesterday, it was at, and around the Grand Gulf nuke plant.

MCI Drill simulating incident at GGNPP. Lot of those things going on everywhere this time of year. We had out Statewide Tornado Drill yesterday, and of course, even several LEA's and others didn't know about it even though announced and planned months ago. Go figure.

County board meets informally | Vicksburg
The Warren County Board of Supervisors met Monday to discuss the county’s radio system and work at RiverFront Park but made no final decisions.

First on the agenda was a proposal by Motorola Solutions regarding a radio system conversion to aid first responders.

A task force has been evaluating upgraded radio systems that could be used to assist first responders. At Monday’s meeting, representatives from Motorola Solutions along with John Elfer, the director of the Emergency Management Agency, presented estimated pricing for the conversion to the MSWIN Radio System. - See more at: County board meets informally | Vicksburg

Bratton Road-Martintown area to get street lights, traffic control - New Albany Gazette
In departmental business:
Police Chief Chris Robertson asked the board to sign an agreement that will help give officers access to the statewide MSWIN digital radio system. The Union County Sheriff’s Department is already on the system and most emergency and law enforcement agencies will be going to the system eventually.

Robertson said Union County emergency management director Curt Clayton had obtained a grant that can be used to purchase six of the new MSWIN-capable radios, and the city has about $7,000 in a Department of Public Safety fund that can be used for more radios.

Robertson noted that officers have been involved in two situations in the past couple of weeks where communication among several agencies was essential.

Aldermen approved the agreement and it will be up to the state agency to designate a new radio frequency for the city police to use.

FYI - Lee County EMS and Medical Control have now switched over to their designated channels.
(They had been using Event channels due to some issue with the WCC. I guess they got it resolved.)

Kind of knew Warren/Vicksburg was going to be looking hard at MSWIN... Most likely will happen, joining Forrest, Rankin, Lee and others in the move. Halfway expecting Hinds to eventually join.... And will be watching to see if City of Jackson Public Safety goes with Hinds for the long haul or go to the City Harris P25ip.... May have to make a couple of calls and see if I can get anything.

Looking like Claiborne might be on MSWIN ... they have now been ID'ed using Special Event TG 10404, so they have MSWIN Radios. Guys in Central MS, start looking for new TG's.

Also King's Daughter's EMS in Brookhaven has APX 6000's and the ID showing when they talk to ER etc is 1176001. What would that translate to as an scanner would show?
