PSREdit Software: PSREdit - Configuration Editors for the new GRE line of scanners Version 1.25 Now Available *** Updated 11/27/2007

edit... I noticed that post #1 of this thread/forum stated updates and versions with an old date... (2007)

The current PSRedit-500 version is 1.87 Release #3 and it was updated/released on August 1, 2009. Maybe, as a suggestion, the creater of post #1 could edit his post from time to time, as its the page that comes up first as you access this PSRedit thread/forum. I'm sure release info is posted in this forum regularly, but the 2007 info always gets shown first when you access this forum. Thanks.

I don't normally post release notices here. They are normally posted in the PSREdit Yahoo group, and the specific group for the PSREdit version being released.

I would but Even as the forum moderator, there is only so long that I can edit each post. It locked up, quite a long time ago. and is no longer editable.

Thanks, I was just curious as to why it may not have been edited from time to time. I am extremely pleased with the way PSRedit-500 works. It's my favorite, and it makes editing frequencies fun. I have ebcouraged members and friends to purchase it. Thanks again for the update,

Kevin

qwik question regarding PSRedit and my Pro-106... I am trying to monitor comms from the new 700/800 mhz trunked system from a county that butts up against mine. The county begins approx 15 to 18 miles away from my home. They are transmitting a relatively strong signal, and I am using a good yagi, pointed at that county. My Pro-106 is set for default on the signal strength meter, and it shows me FULL bars as far as the signal strength is concerned... however, my default digital settings on the 106 do not seem to be breaking squelch, and while I see the signal bar meter at full signal strength, I am not hearing many comms. The signals barely break squelch to allow me to monitor this system. The transmissions that ONLY occaisionally break squelch, are extremely spotty, broken up and somewhat weak. The reception is great when I place a duckie antenna on top and drive into that county, so I know the system is loaded correctly into my radio. I guess these 700/800 systems are more localized, short radius transmitted signals, as opposed to VHF which I can pick up for many many miles.

Is there a setting that I can change (customize) in the PSRedit500 software that might allow the signal to be received better, to at least allow the weak transmission to break squelch enough for me to either re-adjust my yagi or to allow me to utilize a GRE super amplifier, to put some gain into the received signal. Does the noise threshold have anything to do with this... it too is set to default, as all my settings are default - globaly. I have not learned how to tweek my squelch, P25, or digital settings to allow the 106 to receive trunked systems that have border line reception.

In regards to the GRE super amplifier, I was thinking of making the purchase in the near future, but I am not crazy about dumping too much signal, or added noise into my reception. I do not wish to overload my front end. I would like to achieve better reception by tweeking first.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

Signal

Sound like a cellular system making your signal strength meter peg and that interference covers up the real signal.

The super amp works well on weak signals but if you are getting interference from a cellular towers it will make it worse. Not much you can do other than a notch filter to cut out the cellular band.

There are quite a few cell towers between me and the county line... you just reminded me of that fact, so I guess that a cell notch filter may be in order...

I have a small FM filter, which I tried... and it did not help. Are you able to recommend to me a notch filter that can help reduce the cellular band? The filters I have seen seem to be best suited for filtering out VHF FM and radio broadcast... not specifically designed for cell band filtering.

I am thinking (PREFERABLY) a pre-amp with a cell notch filter. I think that this combination would work well for my application.

Dwell Time

Easier to Read Pro-106/197/PSR500/600 Digital Scanner Manual

Dwell: Sets the amount of time the scanner dwells on a Motorola, P25, or EDACS system control channel for activity on programmed talkgroups. Use 0 for automatic mode, which uses control channel information to determine when all current talkgroup information has been broadcast by the system.
Enter the amount of time, 0-200 (X 100 ms [5=.5 sec.]), for the delay.

QWIK QUESTION regarding PSRedit-500...

What is CC Dwell Time used for... I see that its set to 0 as a default. I am not sure what this changes... any one have the answer?

would there ever be a reason to change that setting, or is it best to leave it on 0 "auto" as I am not experiencing any (local TSYS) system problems... I guess I should just leave it alone. I was curious if it would help out, so to speak, on distant barely receiveable TSYS. Thanks.

I'm no expert but I'd leave it alone if you aren't having issues. I beleive it means if you were missing bits of information due to scanning before the conversation was over you'd want to change that. 0 uses information encoded in the datastream to handle this.

You know 0 is default so you could play with it and try it out I guess. You know what to go back to if you have problems.

First, enable the CD-ROM button by going into the configuration page for the RadioReference.com web service and check the box there to enable it. This will make the "Query CD-ROM" button appear on the import screens.

Then start the CD-ROM web server (usually done by inserting the CD-ROM into the drive).

Everything from that point is pretty much the same as importing from the web service, except that you don't need to enter a user name and password, and you would click the Query CD-ROM button instead of the Query Web Service button to start the process.

Wildcard/Private call info ?

A little help please.
If I left click on a particular scangroup(already loaded and assigned to a scanlist ) and assign a wildcard or a private call to it ,does that affect other scangroups in the same scanlist ? In other words, will private call affect only the particular scan group and wildcard affect the total scanlist ?

Thanks for any help,

I'm not sure I understand your question, however...

Adding an object to your configuration will not have any effect on existing objects. Adding a wildcard (either group or private) will allow you to hear talkgroups and private calls that you don't already have programmed. Note that when you get a wildcard hit, and you use the STOR option, the object created will have all the properties of the wildcard (i.e. scan list memberships, LED settings, alert settings, etc).

Does that answer your question?

you assign the wild card to a TSYS. . The wild card needs to be in the same scan list as the TSYS. The wild card only affects that system in which it is assigned. I hope this correct, It's the way I understand it.

EXAMPLE:

37808 Grp 42nd LRF --- ---4------------------ 0
38032 Grp GROUNDS --- ---4------------------ 5
38096 Grp 38096 --- ---4------------------ 0
WILDCARD! Grp NEW TALKGROUP 2.0 ---4------------------ 0
WILDCARD! Pvt PRIVATE CALL 2.0 ---4------------------ 0

Technically, the TSYS is not assigned to any scanlists, only the talkgroup objects are assigned to scanlists. A TSYS will be scanned only if any talkgroup objects (wildcard or otherwise) that are associated with it are in an enabled scanlist.
