qwik question regarding PSRedit and my Pro-106... I am trying to monitor comms from the new 700/800 mhz trunked system from a county that butts up against mine. The county begins approx 15 to 18 miles away from my home. They are transmitting a relatively strong signal, and I am using a good yagi, pointed at that county. My Pro-106 is set for default on the signal strength meter, and it shows me FULL bars as far as the signal strength is concerned... however, my default digital settings on the 106 do not seem to be breaking squelch, and while I see the signal bar meter at full signal strength, I am not hearing many comms. The signals barely break squelch to allow me to monitor this system. The transmissions that ONLY occaisionally break squelch, are extremely spotty, broken up and somewhat weak. The reception is great when I place a duckie antenna on top and drive into that county, so I know the system is loaded correctly into my radio. I guess these 700/800 systems are more localized, short radius transmitted signals, as opposed to VHF which I can pick up for many many miles.
Is there a setting that I can change (customize) in the PSRedit500 software that might allow the signal to be received better, to at least allow the weak transmission to break squelch enough for me to either re-adjust my yagi or to allow me to utilize a GRE super amplifier, to put some gain into the received signal. Does the noise threshold have anything to do with this... it too is set to default, as all my settings are default - globaly. I have not learned how to tweek my squelch, P25, or digital settings to allow the 106 to receive trunked systems that have border line reception.
In regards to the GRE super amplifier, I was thinking of making the purchase in the near future, but I am not crazy about dumping too much signal, or added noise into my reception. I do not wish to overload my front end. I would like to achieve better reception by tweeking first.
Thanks in advance,
