When updating WIN500 to the latest version, do we need to replace all three files in the archive, or can we just replace the exe?
You don't need to (and probably shouldn't) replace the INI file. It's what contains all of your settings within the program (COM port, window position, column widths, etc.).

The DLL does get updated periodically. I'd replace that one always.

Presuming the 'wink icon' wasn't referring to the 'wish list'... what Weather settings would you save in the INI file?
I'd guess that weather settings pretty much relate to the individual v-scanner file in use, since your variables are going to be geographic: which stations are receivable, which SAME codes apply in the area being scanned, etc. Maybe I'm missing something Frank has found, but I'm not coming up with a WX setting that's going to remain constant enough to stay in the INI file vs a V-scanner file.

Wink for 4th of 4.

SAME entries and priority settings would be nice. :) However, now wondering if this may be detrimental for traveling.

I think it would (be detrimental). Each saved file already has all of the SAME, priority, and all other Wx settings. They should probably be location-specific, like each saved file.

Don,

I am trying to enter a frequency of 118.520000 for a CONV object and once I press enter or tab off the field it changes the frequency to 118.516666 Just thought you would want to know.

Thanks,
Kris

Have you tried entering 118.525, which is the actual frequency being used? What happens then?

. . . What is involved in transferring files from Butel's Arc996 software program (or from the Uniden 996 directly) into your software package for the 500 ?

I realize the totally different structures, but can one just copy-and-paste between the programs (at least the freq's and the text) ?

Or . . .
As of Version 0.47 Don has not implemented the paste function.

Be aware that Mr. Starr's Win96 does support pasting from spreadsheets and the like and possibly from your Arc996 files. Furthermore, Win500 will read Win96 (.P96) files. This suggests a possible work-around until the paste function is implemented in Win 500:

  • Download and install Win96 - http://www.starrsoft.com/ - and take advantage of the thirty-day free trial.
  • Find a way to use the Win96 paste feature to get your existing information into Win96.
  • Save the resulting Win96 file.
  • Import the saved Win96 (.P96) file into Win500
Hope this helps.

If I knew how the 'Arcxxx' apps put information on the clipboard when you hit CTRL-C, it might help with pasting into Win500. If BOBRR could copy some info from his current program to the clipboard, paste into Notepad, then send me the resulting text file ( Win500@starrsoft.com ), I could see how easy it would be to support the format in Win500.

I do have plans to implement Win96's "text paste" functionality in Win500. This will take tab-delimited fields, as if you had selected a set of rows/columns in Excel, and paste new CONV or TGRP objects.

Or you could download the ARC demo, import a system and try it for your self

Load from RR

Found a small problem on the load of trunked system from RR. The default TSYS was set at -1 in the software. I wanted to overwrite the system as I had hand input part of. Thought that I could "see" the TSYS already in the radio in the same way I could "see" the existing target scan lists. Found out that I couldn't and could not re-enter the -1 value (or at least I could not find a way) so I hit cancel and came back in. Would suggest being able to see the existing as well as set to -1 (or auto select)

I have a problem with downloading a potential competitor's app and exploiting their features. Never done it, never will.

Hardly. I told someone (based on their request) that if I knew how another app put data on the clipboard, I'd see what I could do about pasting it into my app. As it turned out, that other app put data on the clipboard in exactly the same way as my and many other "table-based" apps do it (tab-delimited lines of text, each terminated by a CR/LF).

I didn't ask for the app or any of its data. Just how the requestor's app presented data to the world on the clipboard. I specifically asked for a copy/paste of the data, so that I wasn't exposed to the app or its native data formats.

EDIT: changed emphasis on "to the world"
