P25 Phase II Encrypted or not?

Are the online PA operations on the new VHF P25 phase II system encrypted or in the clear. Also, FYI Westmoreland County's part of the system not on the air yet.

Have been monitoring 154.92 in Westmoreland County for years and it's still used only sporadically by PSP Greensburg Base for VHF FM analog radio checks with cars. Any other freqs I can check:?

All PSP comms are and will be encrypted on the new P-25 Phase 2 system. If you hear clear comms most likely you are hearing PADOT or DCNR.

Make sure you don't have tone squelch on that freq and just keep listening. 154.935 could be used too. Possibly something around 161-162MHz as well. It may be active any day now. The Darlington site was showing as a neighbor for a week or two and it just came online a day or so ago.

Ok, thanks. I checked it out. I see 5 frequencies not listed in the RR database for Presque Isle (ERIE40). Why is that - because it's pending? I added them into my favorites list anyway - correct?

The only frequencies that are relevant are any control channel freqs (primary / alt). as long as you have those, you don't need any others.

Is 161.800 nac 941 part of this system?

Yes it will be:

Site 1-061 (unknown location)

161.800 cc
161.850 ac
161.900 ac

Based upon every variable you can think of at your location, in which direction do you think this is coming from and how far away do you think it is? Are you willing to share your approx location? It ccertainly would be helpful.

Those frequencies will never show up on an FCC license, so we have to guesstimate the site based upon neighbor lists and triangulation.

I'll go out on a limb and suggest it might end up being BEAV02 site (Racoon Creek / Frankfurt Springs in Beaver Co). I say that because my buddy north of me in Carroll Co Ohio / Western Columbiana Co Ohio is pulling the site in on his Tram dual band vertical. Wherever the site is, it is definitely going to be in BUTL/BEAV/ALLEG I think.

I am on North Versailles. I get it on my whistler trx1 about half scale.

It's probably BEAV02 (see my other post), but I guess perhaps ALLE59 in Pittsburgh.

ALLE59 - https://goo.gl/maps/iuNTUTkWVH72
BEAV02 - https://goo.gl/maps/vEFYDsKJa4r

However, with that said, disregarding what I may think, it could be further down in SWPA -- another person (who will report here if he wants to) suggests it is south of him, which would put it down below Allegheny Co. And that may jive with Jeff's ability to monitor it on his TRX, if he has a good vantage point to the south.

Those with DSDPlus will need to start checking sites between Beaver and the Nettle Hill and out to the west a county or two and see if any of those sites are now reporting a site neighbor of 1-061

We might not get FCC license data for everything. But, we know, generally, the locations of all the VHF tower sites by the maps I posted previously.
