Does anyone know, by chance, if the price has changed to clearance since the item is discontinued? If so, what is the price? Thanks for any input.

Hugh, for the time being the price of the Pro-18's are still at their regular price even thought it's
stocking status is discontinued. Maybe down the road it could be marked down - not sure though.
Let's also say that if GRE were to resume production of scanners as in the Pro-18's case,
I have seen from time to time an items status return to active status ... it's all up to GRE now ;)
OK, it's back to the wait and see game that we all have been playing since their Oct Press release.

Thanks, Michael, for the update. Found a franchise store willing to let them go for $379, which be would an excellent buy. But with no firmware updates insight, possibly ever, think i'll just sit back and wait for the price to go even lower. It really is an excellent radio, despite all the negative reviews on the RS website. If there was a chance it would ever be upgraded to do TDMA X2, I wouldn't mind having another one or two.

Searching in the dark!

I purchased a used Pro-18 and it arrived with Radio and cable, but no CD for the iScan software. I called our famously useless Radio Shack and they can't even give me a part number for the iScan software, much less if it is even available, which I doubt. If anyone could help me with a part number for the Pro-18 iScan software CD I would be very greatfull. If you could provide a copy of it I would be even more so, as I doubt I am going to find it since I spent hours searching for it yesterday on the internet. So any help any of you can provide me would be greatly appreciated.

Poor plead for help regarding iScan Pro-18

As previously posted, I am in need of a copy of the iScan Pro-18 CD. I have contacted Radio Shack, GRE, and even Anchor Technology, whom I was told by Radio Shack developed the software for them. But, so far I have had no help. I have been told that the GRE EZscan will work if you have a SD card formatted for the iScan but I need to have a copy of the software to format a new SD card as I don't want to take a chance on ruining the working SD card I do have. Since Radio Shack doesn't support the scanner anymore, and GRE is gone, I don't think there would be any copyright infrigements if someone were to email me a download or a link to a download. I am running out of ideas. I have also sent a message to a seller on ebay trying to get them to sell me a copy of their CD but haven't received a reply yet. Plus there will probably be a key number required to operate an upgrade anyway. I may just be stuck with a brick as I don't think this radio has been updated since rebanding took place and all of the locals have gone to NB so I don't think the memory in the radio will cover it. If anyone has any ideas, I am all ears. Thanks!

Rick, I am at work and I looked up the RadioShack RSU Catalog # for the Pro-18 EZ-Scan Software CD
So now you can simply stroll into your RadioShack and spoon feed to them that catalog number for
them to order and also they can have it shipped straight to your homes mailbox. Hey it's only $1.50 :))
and it will let you update your RR Database weekly every Saturday as well as your scanners firmware.
Bottom Line: Get is while you can. On a side note all the RSU Parts show to be in stock on this model

Pro-18 EZ-Scan Software CD-ROM RSU Catalog # 12489102 $1.50 ( In Stock ) Hope this helps you !!!

Well, I finally was able to purchase the software CD I needed from the local Radio Shack with help. It appears that most employees aren't familiar with ordering RSU part orders. Once I was instructed what to tell the clerk, they entered the part # and was able to order the CD and have it delivered to me for a grand total of $4.14. It is a shame they are not better trained, as there is not telling how many orders they miss out of not being trained well enough. I was able to get my CD and now hoping to get a repair part for a weather station I was told was not supported. It may not, but then it may just not be in the regular catalog so they say it isn't available. Missed sales hurts any company. But I am glad to have my CD on the way to my house so I can update my radio.

Hey Rick, GREat job in getting that RSU EZ-Scan CD-Rom ordered and I feel good knowing I helped.

I looked up that (630-0256) Radio Shack weather station that was OEM'd by Oregon Scientific.
This item went on clearence way back in 1/24/11 and as noted many stores have them for only $49
I do not see that a replacement rain gage is available for your weather station and if it were it would
probably cost as much as a whole station. Myself, I would buy another entire station to have an extra
LCD readout station in another part of the house and get that rain gage and backup parts just in case.

So when I enter SKU # 630-0250 and search for the available RSU parts - this is the current list today.

Good Luck

ps ~ No entire Rain Gage sensor unit, just a UV Sensor for $51.12 and 4 misc PCB circuit boards.
I see 4 different PCB circuit boards are available, however, I cannot determine their descriptions?
If your raingauge PCB was bad, you could take a picture with your cell phone or bring it with you
and have your 2 blonde friends click on each image to see if you could find your matching sensor PCB
and then order it and have them ship it to you the same way I helped you to order that EZ-Scan CD.

I really appreciate your help. If I can find the entire station for $49.99 I will buy it, as it is a good station. They shipped my CD yesterday so I should have it any day now. Thanks again for your help.

Rick, next time you go to your local Radio Shack have them go to the "Product Portal"
and search for the catalog # 630-0256 and check their district and then their own region.
Important note here and that is when an item is on eternal clearence the price can
throttle lower at some stores than at others and this is ONLY related to clearence items !
It should be selling for $49.97 ish and you should grab another entire station I agree ;)
If your 2 blonde friends can't seem to locate this station let me know and I will arrange
to send one to your store with your name and contact info in the box to be held for you.
How many stores do you have in your area that are within driving distance ? Good Luck.

Michael, let me ask for some advice here. I received my CD and have loaded it onto my computer. How ever, when I connect the USB cable to the radio it displays the Boot Ver. and App Ver. Then it should ask me if I want to look for updates, but on my display after it shows the Boot Ver and App Ver, there is one blank line then it shows, "CPU SW Upgrade:" and the next line says "Waiting for USB." I am wondering if who ever sold this radio just found a USB cable with the proper fitting ends and included it, and the correct USB cable has a separate chip in it or something. I check my device manager and the radio shows up as a mass storage device, so I know the computer is reading that there is an SD card there, but the radio is not asking me to look for updates. Does that sound like I have the wrong USB cable and need to get the correct cable, or do you think I have a different problem? I am all ears oh wise one! And if you think it is a bad cable, could you give me the RSU# for the USB cable. As I do think my girls at the Radio Shack will know how to order it now. Thanks again for any help you can give.

As far as the weather station. I will deal with that after I figure out the radio, but we have a store here in Prattville, which is about 12 or so miles from where I live, but then Montgomery is only 10 more miles and I eat lunch with my Ham buddies on most Saturdays, and there are several Radio Shacks in Montgomery. I will let you know what my local girls come up with when I ask them about that. And it is much cheaper at the store in Montgomery then it is in Prattville. I think I bought my station at the Montgomery Store to begin with. I know I also bought a Buzz Aldrin Radio at the same time and it was $10.00 cheaper in Montgomery then Prattville, and the only radio Prattville had was the show model. But they did say that due to volume the Montgomery Store will always be cheaper then Prattville. I don't mind driving to Montgomery as I am there for lunches on Saturday and also our Montgomery Amateur Radio Club meets there as well, and both locations are less then 3 miles from the Radio Shack and one is across the street from where we eat a lot. Thanks again.

Pro-18 owners manual.

I was able to download a copy of the operators manual from this site. Just click on Wiki link and look under radios, then Radio Shack scanners made by GRE. Then scroll up till you see the Pro-18 radio and click on the picture of the radio. It will open up a page and if you scroll down the page it has a pdf of the owners manual that you can print out or save to your computer.

Rick, I have a Pro-18 at work and I will make time Saturday to see what happens when I connect
it's USB cable to a PC. If it's like my Pro-107 iScan, the only thing that happens upon connection
of it's USB to the PC is that it either indicates external power or that it's now charging if set to do so.
Now on my Pro-107 ( lower cousin to the Pro-18 ) to come up with what you described as happening
I would have to have the scanner off first. Then while off, I hold the menu key while plugging in the
USB PC/IF cable at the same time. This manuever would cause my Pro-107's display to light up
and indicate the following information: Boot Ver 1.x / App Ver 1.x / CPU SW Upgrade / wait for PC/IF
All of this would happen without even turning on the scanner mind you. Next, in the EZ-Scan software
I would then look for the appropriate drop down menu for performing the upgrade in my own example.
You more than likely have the correct USB PC/IF cable in your possesion. Give us a status update,
are you still stuck with that info you mentioned on your screen full time ? Can you do a library update
and configuration copy to your Micro-SD card ? I came accross a Pro-18 that somebody prior to me
caused it to wait for a CPU upgrade prompt. I got past that state it was in otherwise that's all it would do
when powered on is indicate it was waiting for a CPS SW Upgrade. Tell us what happens without
the USB PC/IF cable connected to your Pro-18 ... can you step through menu options ? Can you
scan, search or receive the NOAA weather service ? That Buzz Adlin edition Grundig model is cool.

Dave, I will look Saturday what Pro-18 RSU parts are available - I doubt a service manual is listed, etc.
Probably, just the owners manual and quick start guide are avaiable. I will confirm all this tomorrow.

Michael, you are the man! I was expecting the radio to ask for updates. I was the dummy this time. I reconnected and when it came up showing the firmware versions I opened my Pro-18 iScan and asked for updates and updated both the app and dsp versions without any problems. Now I will attempt the sd card update and don't expect any trouble there. I have to get an adapter and I will be ready to go. Thanks for your help......again! I am making progress now.

P.S. I have updated the SD card library, which had never been updated, so there was quite a file to download. I also formatted a larger SD card and loaded the RR library on it so I have a spare or can load it for traveling. I really do appreciate all of your help. Once I was able to get it started, it was all real easy. Thanks again.

OK Super Dave, here is the current list of RSU parts available for the RS Pro-18 as promised.
It's odd that a Pro-18 Service Manual on CD-Rom is listed for $12.99 but has no RSU part #
so that would make it impossible to order at this point. I even tried guessing skipped part #'s
and I had no luck. All I can say is I will check back again later to see if this error is ever corrected.
