If the card is in the scanner, make sure the scanner is off. I usually take the card out and use a card reader to update the card. Also if you are using Windows 8/8.1. There are procedures to follow to get the drivers to work.

Sounds like your firewall or antivirus is blocking internet access by Iscan. When you check for updates, does the software show any available for download?

I assume your are using the EZ Scan software to download the library update(s). When you try the update, does it give any indication the download is starting and then failing or does it fail right away without downloading anything?

Might it be a permissions problem? Can you/have you tried running iScan (EZ Scan) as Administrator?

It fails immediately. I am running as administrator. It does not ask me to login in to radio reference. I am using the software that came on the scanner Radio shack PRO-668 digital handheld scanner computer programming system. I did notice in my db folder that files start with RRDB_371 is there some where that I can down load RRDB_406 and then just manually put it in the db folder?

What happens if/when you try to check for CPU/DSP updates? Does that work?

Just FYI - I don't have a PRO-668 but I think most things are the same on the PSR800 and WS1080...

Some things to try....

Skip to auto-update option. Try using the "Updates" menu.... select "Check for Library Update". This really should be the same thing but ... just in case.

Next option --

On my machine, I have a folder called EZ Scan Digital (for my PSR800).

Since your radio is a PRO-668, I suspect this will be similar for you but not the same.

On your PC and in your home directory, do you have a folder/directory called something like iScan, etc. that contains the library (sub folder folder names like DB and/or LDB)?

If so, can you rename them (ex: DB -> DB371, LDB -> LDB371, etc.) and then try downloading the update again? Just curious.

Seems like others are downloading updates (or have in the past). Does anyone know if there are any server problems (i.e. others are not able to do the update either) or is that working for others? Need to rule out a problem that is affecting everyone (but that doesn't sound like it is the case).

Tried the updates menu. Does not work either. This is the way the unit came. I have not had to update PC or CPU versions so I dont know if those will work either.

A couple of things you can try below...

1) I just read on another thread that a couple of users had to remove the batteries and change the battery switch to ALK (alkaline) to get updates to work for them. I've never had to do that with EZ Scan, but I don't have iScan so maybe there is a difference. And since this would only take a few minutes to try it might be worth a try.

2) If you have an extra SD Card you can use, you can put it in the scanner and try the "Prepare Scanner Memory/SD Card for use" from the "Scanner/SD Card" menu. When you do this check both options in the "After Format Options:" and then select "Format".

Hope one of these will help.

I shouldnt have to have the scanner connected to download a library update to the software should I? I downloaded the ez scan software figuring if I could get the RRDB 406 files to down load I could just copy and paste them over to iscan folder. I get the exact same error with the ez scan software that I get with iscan software. I don't think having the scanner connected makes a difference because I am trying to update the database on my PC not on the scanner.

Can you temporarily disable the antivirus program and try the update again? Do you only have 1 antivirus program? Having more then 1 can cause all sorts of problems.

Ok got it working. Here is what I did. Loaded software on another PC and did update on it. Then copied DB folder and replaced the one on my main PC and on the card in the PRO668. It now shows correct version number. I am beginnning to think like several have suggested. It my be my anti virus or firewall settings. I will try again after the next update to the RRDB comes out. Thanks to everyone that offered suggestions. At least in the future I now have an aux PC to try also.

Do you have to have the scanner connected (as opposed to the card in a reader) for both the DSP and CPU updates?

Thanks. One more...should the scanner be turned on or off while doing the update?
