They don't do DMR or NXDN at all, and they suck at simulcast worse than every other scanner model I've tested. If any of those are on your listening wishlist, pass.

Programming HP, BCDx36 and SDSx00 scanners are all pretty much the same. They all utilize the HP database, and I am pretty sure allow you to enter a zip code to get started.

While Jon is correct on the HP2, it is actually a good scanner if you do not have simulcast issues where you are. It is easy to set up after you update the database and you can create Favorites Lists once you get familiar with the radio. It does require a Windows computer to update it and run the free Sentinel software, the initial updates are pretty easy.

Programming Favorites Lists are a little more challenging but if you can follow the directions (or watch the several videos on it) it is pretty simple to figure it out.

For simulcast, a SDS or Unication are your only options that will work consistently. And the Unications are only designed to monitor a single system--they aren't general-purpose scanners.
