Hi guys, first time posting and I need some advice on a scanner purchase.

I have a Pro-95 I've had for about a year, listen to Central Arkansas freqs.

I assume from everything I've been reading that this unit will be obsolete for ASP/LRPD and others. Those are my main interests.

So, what is a good portable to replace this, and what should I avoid?

Thanks!
Derek

A view of the ASP system on the database of these pages indicate all frequencies except the CC's are within the safe area for rebanding and the CC's should have an easy waiver, Ie none are above 860.9999 MHz. The system is also analog, thus your 95 should be ok.

The same applies for the Little Rock PS system, all freqs are safe except three CC's which should also have easy waiver.

dwacaster,

If you want to listen to ASP/AWIN, your going to have to purchase either the Pro96 or BCD396T. I have the Pro-96, and it works well. That isn,t stopping me from purchasing the Uniden though. Both are in the $500.00 range, so that's not a concern. Both have plenty of room for many systems, I think Uniden takes this one though with their "dynamic memory", no wasted memory like with the RS/GRE (Radio Shack). Both can stump a user, you already have the RS/GRE, but Uniden seems pretty easy the figure out, especially with the free software that can be downloaded for free. When it comes down to it, $500.00 will get you an apple or orange, what's your taste.

Also, try Matts Yahoo Group, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/scanningarkansas/
he's from the Warren area, and a good guy, also a FF. The group will help you any way they can. Matt owns a BCD396T.

Thanks!

Thanks for the fast responses. I've been doing a lot of research about the 396T, and it sounds great. I think that's the one I'll go with. I've not the slightest clue about how to program it when I get it. When I bought my PRO-95, the RS people cloned it from the one at the store. The last time I programmed a scanner was the one before my PRO-95. I believe it was a PRO-52, which was a LOT different.

Go to the Uniden site if you can and download the free programing software. Get started on setting up what you want to listen to now, the radio comes with a program cable in the box. Remember that your area will be switching to AWIN soon, so program the P25 system, the anolog will be a memory soon, within the next 4-6 wks. Join the group too, it's free and a source of good local info.
