Was just wondering if any addition battery options have been discussed? I do understand ill be getting a little bit bigger battery in the mail around August. But what i would like to do is purchase 3-4 more battery packs and have a stand alone charger or 2 for them so i dont have the charge them in the radio. Will this maybe eventually be an option?

Nope. You'll have to wait for updated info and announcements from Uniden, just like everyone else.

thank you steve, couldnt ask for a better answer! What is the reason uniden decided to go with battery packs, over the most popular battery in the world (the AA)?? like, i knew it was going to be annoying, but this is far more frustrating than i'd imagined lol

The Software Defined Radio (SDR) circuitry in the SDS100 uses a lot more power than previous scanner designs (roughly 3-4 times more). Using AA batteries would have resulted in an unacceptably short battery life.

Once more battery/accessory options are available make sure of your usage needs before spending more $$$. Charging while listening has made a big difference for me. For the car a cigarette lighter USB power device and cord is an important option to have. With my 436 I needed a spare set of batteries to swap out. Not needed now unless away from a convenient and accessible power source.

Just something to consider.

true that charging while listening would make a big difference, but in my situation its not always that easy. Its more like listen until it dies, then go the rest of the day without it. And that cord completely ruins the portability of a handheld unit imo lol. At least its a simple problem, that will be fixed in a couple months!

For now, you could also use an external USB power pack to extend operating time.

This.

The small included battery we have now is 3600mah, or 13wh.
A 20,000mah (72wh) USB battery pack can be had for $50 or so, and can power the SDS100 4-5 times longer than the included battery.

I've been using a 10,000 mAh external pack from Anker (PowerCore) with good results, and it's relatively small, roughly wallet-sized. They also make 20,000 mAh units (note, for the SDS, there is no need for Quick Charge 3.0, the cheaper "Power IQ" technology is sufficient). I find the 20k mAh packs to be a bit cumbersome, but it all depends on how you're carrying it. Anker has always given me very good warranty support, replacing things pretty much immediately once the problem has been identified - and I've never been asked to send defective things back to them (I've had 2 relatively minor problems with their stuff, both of which resulted in complete replacement).
