Correct. The issue, as I said, is when multiple signals arrive at your radio at about the same signal strength. Whether that is -103 or -73, as long as they are about the same you will probably have problems.

And the "Uniden bashing" comment was a joke.

Uh, -73 and -103 are vastly different signal strengths. There is a lot more to simulcast distortion than two signals arriving from different transmitters. For starters it's a different modulation scheme.

Edit: I now realize you probably meant two signals, both at either -73 or -103.

It's amazing how people can criticize a radio that really does not exist yet, and they have never held one on their hands. Absolutely amazing.

I think they want to be first to say "I told you so" in response to even the slightest imperfection. That anyone can fully critique how this radio will operate for "everyone" based on a few YouTube videos, is complete nonsense. Heck, there's no guarantee on how the x36HP models will operate for any given person a full 4 years after launch!

If the scanner handles LSM very well, what will Uniden-haters criticize? I'm really wondering what the default alternative gripe will be. I guess we will know soon.
It's to damned sexy! Lol

So my question is this. Simulcast reception issues come down to demodulation. This is why no scanner currently on the market does it correctly. This is also why if you program a CQSPK site as C4FM in a Motorola XTS, it will deciode it poorly. The SDS, using I/Q demodulation, has thus theoretically solved the problem. What then, theoretically, could make it not decode on the level of subscriber radios and Unication pagers? I’m legitimately asking.

I would think any typical interference a subscriber radio would receive. Good question though, and based upon the few You Tube videos out there on P25 simulcast systems, this sounds as good as some of the subscriber radios on digital systems. I always keep in mind we're buying scanners, and while I would love to have absolute perfection I'm aware that will never happen. But getting as close to the real thing is worth it considering the numerous P25 statewide simulcast systems we have nationwide. I look forward to a scanner that resolves a long time problem with all scanners.

Exactly.

Either the antenna or firmware issues/errors would be the big ones.

All of the disbelief, naysaying and "Hey Paul, please fly to Timbuktu because the system here is the WORST" are pretty ridiculous.

It's the SAME TECHNOLOGY AS WHAT IS IN THE UNICATION, MOTOROLA, HARRIS, KENWOOD AND WHOEVER ELSE MAKES P25 RADIOS...

I am sure the SDS100 will perform very nicely. As what was said before, if you don't like the SDS because it went garbled for a split second one time when you were in a basement somewhere, then sell or return the radio and go buy a Whistler.

Have their been continual improvements to Uniden's digital scanners since the release of the BC796D?

Having owned a 796d and everything uniden has put out at least in my experience yes continual improvement has been made. Others I am sure will tell you different either will real problems or a figment of imagination.

Are you certain about that? How were you able to establish that it is the 'same technology'?

Also, I don't know too many, if any radio dealers that accept returns on scanners. If that were true why haven't any of the hundreds complaining here on RR about their Uniden and/or Whistler scanners just returned them for a refund?

Have been a few videos in this thread already.

After going through the entire thread I did find some. Wasn't sure if they all were simulcast however. A couple had more background noise than scanner audio. I guess scanner owners aren't recording experts.

You Tube SDS100 and you'll see a few. Ohio MARCS system was a notorious problematic simulcast system if you follow the threads. Anyone who takes the time to video a demonstration, I appreciate. It's alot more than we used to see prior to release.

I've done testing for Smart TVs, phones, routers, and all kinds of crap. I've always been under an NDA, so kudos to Uniden for letting these testers share stuff with the community. I'm just getting into this, and I just bought a 536, so the SD100 isn't in my current future, but it's wicked cool to see what these cats are posting.
