Why the surprise at SMA? Every scanner since the Home Patrol 1 has had an SMA. Hopefully they will resume including SMA-to-BNC adapters.

Bzzzzz....wrong answer. BCT15, 15X, 996T, 996XT, 536HP all BNC! In fact, most 'base/mobile' scanners are BNC. I can't recall seeing one in the last 2 decades that was SMA. So...be careful saying "every" ;)

Since you know how to search this stuff. Does anything comes up for the Whistler TRX-100 and TRX-200? They were suppose to begin shipping in Q4 2018 then that go pushed back to Q1 2019. Just curious if they have an actual product or is it more of a concept written on a napkin? I wouldn't want one if I was given one for free, just curious.
Nothing yet. Huge fan of your software btw!

FYI, the website FCCID.io makes it easy to sign up for notifications anytime your favorite company has a new FCC filing. Just go to the manufacturer's page by entering the first three characters of the FCC ID, enter your email, and click subscribe.
eg Uniden: Uniden America Corporation FCC ID Applications (AMW)
Whistler: The Whistler Group FCC ID Applications (HSX)

No, per a post by Wendy a few months ago it will be Q1 2019 before they ship.

Why would Whistler "run away"? I like my TRX-1 and my SDS100, I use the '100 primarily to overcome simulcast distortion issues.

But if Whistler comes out with a good comparable product as well, then we all benefit by competition.

....And Whistler doesn't "nickle and dime" you on DMR, NXDN, etc....

If, in fact, the SMA is used, that is a big mistake. They are so easy to break, and aren't durable at all.

Nice. At least we all know in January of 2019 that the SDS-200 will be announced. It's a guarantee at this point since Uniden made a point not to call them for information and that the announcement will be in January.

No base model scanner beside the Homepatrol would ever put an SMA on the rear of the radio. Like people have said that it would snap off too easy. Would not be a good design for a base home unit.

Also, I wonder if Whistler and Uniden both have their new base unit scanners already made and sitting in shipping containers somewhere in the USA by now. So I am not a hater or a one sided fan I will buy both scanners from both companies to have two different flavors.

I am in for both no matter what.

I would think that a base scanner has it coax laying still, connected to the scanner, while a portable scanner would have it's antenna stressing its connector much more when G forces are at work and the antenna accidently get in touch with different objects. The manufacturers try to solve the portable problem by designing antennas where the outher shell goes over its connector and makes a flush contact with the scanner, and makes special sma-bnc adaptors the same way. Icom IC-R10 have its antenna with BNC connector done the same way to stop it from breaking the BNC connector.

I have much more intermittent connection problems with BNC than SMA due to the mechanical design of the connector. Almost all my connectors are now SMA and F-SMA adaptors and use SMA-BNC adaptors for those scanners that doesn't have SMA.

What the hell are you doing with your radios that causes pieces to "snap off" easily?

In 30 years in the hobby I have yet to experience this. I wasn't aware it was a problem.

What purpose would that serve? After having spent millions of dollars on R&D, why pack it all up on pallets only to miss the biggest shopping season of the year?

Nor do they implement them properly.

Depends on what you are trying to decode. I have no trunked DMR or NXDN systems I am trying to monitor. There are IP site connect systems, and the Whistlers and the Unidens, with DMR/Trbo, work just fine with them. So "properly" depends on what application you are attempting to use them for.

When you mount a radio ...err, scanner, inside a vehicle, there are certainly situations that may arise where the coax connection to the scanner may be pushed against, or bumped. I have never had a BNC or 239 break off, bend, etc., but the little SMA connectors are very light duty, and can be very easily bent and broken. Definitely not heavy duty, barely medium duty.

And I didn't know scanners had SMA connectors on them 30 years ago... ??
