Upman - I drive truck all over the east coast. I would enjoy being a beta tester if you are looking for one. Testing different systems analog and digital I sure would be helpful. Feel free to PM me if you feel the same.

What the hell are you doing with your radios that causes pieces to "snap off" easily?

In 30 years in the hobby I have yet to experience this. I wasn't aware it was a problem.
wonder if they are basing that info from when the Chinese dual band DMR radio came out MD2017 I believe it was called , that had a VERY cheap sma connector on it that did in fact break. I however have never seen a quality sma connector "snap" motorola uses them for the gps on their mobiles. I think its safe to say if motorola can use them why not Uniden :)

LOL I suspect their view is based on the fact that SMA is weaker than the larger BNC connector... (y) not to mention easier to twist on rather than screw on. We'll see which route they go but I'm for BNC personally.

Would be nice if we could get cost of this new radio coming out. Looks good but performance matters. Since most police around here will be going all encryption, my not be worth upgrading and just stay with my current scanners.

....And Whistler doesn't "nickle and dime" you on DMR, NXDN, etc....

Because whistler does not trunk track those systems because they don’t pay the royalties
If they did they would charge you extra also

I’ll stick with my x36’s since they work awesome on these type systems

FYI The Ham Station (in Evansville, IN) has already posted a webpage for the sale of the SDS200 on their website which states the following (direct copy and paste from their website):

"SDS-200 base version of sds-100

Base version of the sds-100.Official announcement JAN 2019

No price yet will post when known."

Here's the direct link to the webpage if you want to have a look at it for yourself: SDS-200 base version of sds-100 : The Hamstation!, Your one stop on-line source for amateur radio fun.

It has been confirmed from Upman that there's no differency in royalties if you use trunk technology or not.

No it has been confirmed royalties still have to paid. I suspect uniden has to pay a bit more than whistler. I could be wrong but it is just a guess.

I have never understood the whole debate over licensing of technologies. I thought DMR is an open protocol from ETSI, P-25 is an open protocol from APCO and NXDN/IDAS is an open protocol from ITU? So, if these are all "open protocol's" aka Common Air Interfaces, why would anyone pay anyone for a license? I understand that different vocoders can be used, and that the DVSI AMBE+ vocoder is something one might have to pay for to get better audio, but the technologies are all open protocol's, so what am I missing?

Its all about stealing money from other companies and ultimately take it from the consumers pocket book. Isn't that how America is built on by taking money and taxing people until they can't afford to live anymore?

Open protocol means that anyone can license the technology. It does not mean anyone can use the technology for free. If you want to use the technology, the owner is required to license it to you on an equitable basis with other licensees. If you use the technology without paying the licensing fee, then you are stealing the technology. BTW: I have no idea what W's business arrangements are with the particular licensors.

I thought this was a thread about the new SDS200 not why Uniden charges for DMR, NXDN & Provoice.

It does pertain to the SDS200. Following the whole thread, one can see how...

Yes, but I am more interested and getting information on the SDS200. Its no big surprise that all extras will cost to upgrade. Let's wait and see when UPMAN announces things in January.
