If you figure out what is causing it, please let me know.

For the power issue, there are OTG cables which allow you to charge while you are using the app. Just make sure you get a decent one. I have one that causes a low USB voltage error on the scanner.
I need to look into it more, but I have a feeling the scanner is actually running off the phone battery.
That's exactly what was happening. I plugged the cable in and the battery voltage jumped from 3.84 to 3.97. I ordered the cable with the charging end. I think that will take care of my issues. In the meantime curiosity got the best of me and I did some experimenting. I cut the power wires in the cable to see what would happen and when I plugged it in it wouldn't do anything. I don't know how it's all supposed to work but evidently it has to have power going to the port for it to work. I took another cable and spliced it into that one to make it work with an external charger. App, phone, and scanner are working great with the external charger. It's been running for an hour now with no issues with a 7% battery drain on the phone which I would consider normal with the screen staying on.
Other notes, I did reprogram it using Proscan. I really don't understand what would have been the issue there because I had some Favorites in my 436 that I had programmed by hand also and it run on it with no problem. Also I did check the battery settings on the 100 before I messed with the cable and the set charge while on was set to off. Again thank you so much for sharing this.

Here is an updated version:

Added:
System, Department and Channel now indicate hold status by reversing the text color
It will show a message if it loses connection to the scanner
Added UID to the display (I think). Let me know if this works or not.

Link will expire in 7 days. The old link still good in case this one causes crashes

I just downloaded, and installed the new version. Everything is working beautifully, and I absolutely love the UID's being displayed! Didn't see any GPS activity when I first started the app, so I went back to settings and enabled permissions, everything started working as expected. The hold feature does work, but it's a bit clunky, and has a delay of several seconds. Not sure if this is a 436 specific thing, or not.

After about 5 minutes or so, the app closed and I got a popup stating that it has a bug. It will not allow me to open it again.

I will try and figure out what's going on tomorrow. You can try to clear the cache (although, I have no idea what it is caching) and/or the user data and see if that lets it run again.

The delay on the hold is the scanner. Nothing I can do about it. Happens on SDS models too.

Clearing the cache did nothing. App opens, but as soon as I try to allow the scanner to connect, it closes immediately.

I think i found the problem. I added code to try and make the app say something useful while the "press . for serial" is displayed

Try this version:

I downloaded the one you released earlier and its been running about 4 hours without any issues. I've run it on both the 436 and the 100. I believe the key to this app working properly is to have a proper otg cable with the charger splitter. I ordered one but in the meantime I made one and have had zero problems since.

One thing in particular I like about this is I can leave the display off on the sds100 while using the app and there's a noticeable temperature drop with the display turned off. I bought it about a year after it came out so uniden could work out the bugs but then the cold solder issue popped up. I've never had an issue with mine but by it running cooler it makes me feel a little better about it.

Does your Android screen stay full brightness? Mine dims after a period of time and I was planning to look into how to keep the screen on

I think the problem with the previous version was a race condition, so you may hit it eventually.

I downloaded an app called screen alive to keep the screen on.

It's working good now. One thing I've noticed with all versions is that it tends to hold onto the traffic channel for dear life. I had to adjust the squelch up quite a bit, but that's not really a big deal. Hearing an old school analog squelch tail on P25 caught me off guard.

Could it be RFI up the USB cable? Maybe try a ferrite?

I tried using a couple of the clip on ferrites with no change. Not sure what mix they are. It still seems strange that it would hold onto a traffic channel long after the transmission stopped, long enough for there to be static. It could be getting overloaded from being hooked to the phone, so I suppose I could try airplane mode to rule that out.

Here's a new version:
I was able to take it on a road trip and found a bunch of bugs, the worst being the buttons not working after a data reload which I think is fixed.
I also changed a lot of the display code
Other changes:
- Screen will stay on while the app is running in the foreground
- Added a screen for the search mode along with appropriate buttons
- Added a screen for a close call hit with appropriate buttons
- Added a display to show if close call is on (I added this after driving 3 hours with it off, unknowingly)
- Moved the buttons up a little to accommodate phones with navigation bars
- Bug fixes

There were more bugs I saw which I haven't been able to duplicate yet. Nothing to scan error and messed up lat/long. Can't even be sure it was the code and not the scanner itself.

Everything is on Github now, so you can get the APK there as see my ugly code

Here's the link, try it out and tell me what I broke.

The 436 is the one scanner I don't have. So that will make fixing it very difficult, if not impossible

Do you know if the previous version worked on the 436? If not and you want to try it, you can get it here:

I have not attempted to use this app yet but I'm following this thread with interest. One question I don't believe that has been asked yet; does the use of GPS detract from using GPS for the obvious reasons most have phones in vehicles, as in navigation with apps such as Waze, Google Maps, etc.? In other words is it possible to use for both simultaneously?

To follow up on my last, I guess I can at least partially answer my own question. Normally my phone is connected to Android Auto in my vehicle for nagivation, hands free operation, etc. If it's connected via an OTG cable to the scanner I guess that will detract from such use in vehicles where the wired connection is necessary. I realize in newer vehicles the connection to Android Auto can be achieved wirelessly, but how does it work then, or does it?
