As there are no TGs listed, someone may have assumed Type II but never
actually figured it out. I don't think they would have switched from Type II to
I, but you never know, may have bought a used system from someone, which
was already set up as Type I (not likely though).
The system broadcasts a SysID, so it is Type II (capable). Since Type I IDs are being seen, it's a hybrid system.

Let's see what comes out of this exercise...
Eric sent me a nice log file this morning; it contains nearly 500 raw IDs. Some of those will be from radios tuning to different subfleets, so they represent less than 500 physical radios. The IDs are listed in subsequent posts.

This is a list of some of the tailgating events (one ID follows another on the same voice channel); it shows that blocks zero, one and two use 8 bits for individual IDs, so those blocks are using sizecodes I, J or K (S9, S10 or S11).

Andy, Dave. I let trunker88 run on Hendersons system today. Would you like a file of that also? I doubt it is nearly as busy as Stelco.

I am gonna submit it to the database today, just wanted to make sure all the v/c & c/c.

The system broadcasts a SysID, so it is Type II (capable). Since Type I IDs are being seen, it's a hybrid system.

Interesting, what you find when you start messing around with raw bits...? :)
BTW TRUNK88 4.53 doesn't seem to recognize a pure Type I system, even
with >95% decoding (seeing mostly good OSWs). Is there a trick, or just the
way it is...? Older version 2.4d seemed to name a file 0001.ctl and popped up
the frequencies OK (did not try the fleetmap).

I assume you mean a full SysID for Type II, as opposed to the partial one
broadcast by Type I (e.g. 1fdd = xx1d on a particular system in Ottawa).

So...Eric, is you want to play with your scanner, you would still have some trial
and error, but it's getting closer. I'd try programming Block 0,1,2 with size code
S9, and all others Type (S0) to see what happens. Watch the Type I TGs to see
if they are coherent i.e. the conversations don't jump between TGs.

Dave: I guess I can, I have never had to do anything like that above.
Stelco is real boring though lol.

Even if I could follow what was going on all the steel jargon is hard to understand.

Andy's better at analyzing raw bitstreams, if he'd like to. Sounds like it could be
Type II, possibly mixed, but if you've seen activity on what looks like a Type II TG,
try it as pure Type II (sounds like you might have already?). In any case I'd be
interested.

BTW Eric, anything you may lack in technical background or whatever doesn't make too
much difference, now that you have something up and running. Have fun, and looks
like you have already dug some useful info. Now if you should take a liking to LTR,
how about Andy's LTR Analyzer, which, by mere luck uses a disc-tap and sound-card.

Dave: I am very humble and quite insecure when it comms to radio stuff. What I would like to do is find new systems, new talkgroups and the like? I think I have found Henderson Hospital system, a 3 channel Moto system like Stelco.
There were very few comms on it on sunday but I left trunker88 running today.
I dont know if my wife used to computer today, I assumed she would be at work till 3 but she injured herself on the job in her first day so she may have switched partions and maybe truunker got turned off.

LTR i need you to PM me about the stuff you mentioned size block and the like?
I know of very little LTR systems (?) around here.

For block 1 try size code J, using H2F.exe and the radio ID, that makes the most sense. Let me know if it works, Looks like RID 094B might be a worth listening to. Lotsa hits.

The older versions did try to autodetect when a pure Type I system was being monitored. The newer versions don't do that. I've been planning on adding Type I detection at program startup only (e.g. you wouldn't be able to System/Switch from a Type II datastream to a Type I datastream or between two Type I datastreams). There would then have to be a dialog to let the user tell the program if this was a new system or if a system .ctl file already existed.

For now, you can monitor a Type II system and then just switch your receiver to the Type I system; it's not ideal, but that's what you've got.

Yes, I mean it broadcasts a Type II SysID dual-OSW:

308 G 2436 SysID; SysID=2436 ctl chan=37
30B G 2837

Type I systems only broadcast a single-OSW control channel marker that contains the pseudo-SysID:

037 G 1FF6 Control channel marker; Control Chan=37

Is the Ottawa system in the database? Any chance of getting an OSW log from it?
