Well once again I heard the sound of a C-160, parked my scanner on 125.05 and in a few minutes heard GERMAN AIR FORCE-391. Just handed off to 125.65.

I had a FLYER 1 flight, presumably headed southbound, chatting with ZNY Modena Sector on 338.300 at 12:15 PM. I didn't have the scanner on, but grabbed it after I was buzzed by what sounded like an A-10. All I caught was the FLYER flight checking in. Seems like he made a wide sweep west before heading south after leaving Willow Grove. Must be weather related...very overcast, low ceiling around here. We've had 4+ inches of rain in the last 24 hours in my neighborhood.

1252: GUARD COPTER 26844 notifies Dinwiddie UNICOM that they will be performing parachute drops at 1300 over Virginia State University in downtown Petersburg, VA. <122.7>
1254: GUARD COPTER 26844 notifies POTOMAC App. of their parachute drop intentions. <307.2>

From the sound of the rotors, I'm guessing that it's a UH-60.

Also, right now I'm listening to the tanks at Fort Pickett shooting some artillery at the range. It's making quite the boom!

Tail was 50+46. Have another C-160D early 1500 hour with tail 50+96.

Andrews Command Post (and I suppose variations like Griffin Command and SAM Command) are using the repeater again today on 141.55. Ground station very loud and clear and once again can hear that series of beeps when he keys his mic. That was around 1500 when I heard it. The times I've heard them testing this, I haven't had a chance to hear a call to LIBERATOR (756th ARS Control) to hear if they're also using it. The difference this time is that aircraft on 378.1 are not being patched to the 141.55 freq as they were during last week's test.

1538: VIKING 87 (C-130H, 87-9287, 96th AS Minneapolis) arriving Andrews....TRACON. (w/CP about 15 minutes earlier giving arrival message on 378.1)
1545: REACH 476 has been calling Andrews CP, Andrews Ops and SAM Command for 10 minutes but getting no reply. He's using the Dispatch freq though which Andrews never seems to monitor...372.2
1547: REACH 476 (C-17A, 03-3122, 437th AW Charleston) changes to a monitored freq (sometimes) and gets Andrews for his arrival message...8-10 minutes out, has four pax...needs crew trans for 2, parking in spot 12-B...378.1
1550: REACH 476 w/TRACON on approach to ADW....128.35
1551: BULL 905 (C-130H, 93-1040, 328th AS Niagara Falls) calling Andrews...no joy...378.1 [First time hearing 3-digit suffix for this unit]

1607: GUCCI 29 (KC-10A, 85-0029, 60th AMW Travis) arriving at McGuire w/Command Post....319.4

1707: REACH 476 reports airborne from Andrews...378.1
1707: REACH 476 w/TRACON climbing out...125.65

1840: HEFTY 17 (C-5B, 86-0026, 60th AMW Travis) departs Andrews...TRACON (He arrived at Andrews early in the 1500 hour)

Enjoyed the Delaware at Navy football game today.Thought weather would be bad but

Flyby was single P-3 but as directly overhead couldn't see tail.
Guess cause of weather no F-18's or that Delaware is 1AA team but no matter.

John, when he came through my area, he was heading to the northeast. He was heard later over Cape Cod at 2052Z (ASCOT 7045)

And speaking of that BACKY 11 tanker, it reminds me I've been wanting to comment about the spelling of that callsign. I've seen recent logs that have it as BACKE with someone saying they heard it spelled that way. I can guarantee it's spelled with a 'Y'...BACKY.
And the KC-10s from McGuire spell their callsign DUCE, not DEUCE even though it sounds that way. Wish I knew the background for that. I'd guess someone spelled it wrong way back when and they kept it that way as an inside the unit joke. You and I know how that works.
And the KC-135s from Mildenhall spell their callsign QID, even though they say QUID.

Ref Below: I had nothing from VR-53 logged today John to account for the AX383. The only RY I had from the VR-59 unit was BuNo 165833, a C-40A, but he doesn't equate to RY670.

1155: Fighter activity on HUNTRESS freq 260.9. It's very weak from my location so I don't know where/who it is. Listening for callsigns.
1200: Sounds like STEEL 21 on the 260.9 freq which could make it Langley fighters working one of the offshore areas either at low level or way down in W-72 or W-122. No idea why they're using this freq though. They are performing ACM activity.
1203: Hearing STEEL and TORCH callsigns working w/HUNTRESS...this should confirm Langley fighters....260.9
1210: ROGUE 01 flight (Probably Langley) checking in w/Giant Killer for work in W-386 G-J on mission V-3005...249.8 (New callsign for Langley)

1303: Just came back to check on that 260.9 freq and now there are DAGGER F-22As from Langley working on it...working FL 320-340...260.9

1300 hour has activity all over the place - including A-10s from Willow Grove on interflight 143.75 (FLYER). Lots of Langley F-22 activity on the Giant Killer freqs/
1312: FLYER flight of two A-10s from Willow Grove w/Phil TRACON 317.55 and then to ZDC-Kenton 354.15 where they check in at 8000 feet (Probably heading for Pax)
1323: FLYER flight handed off to Patuxent Check-In and so they check in there at 10,000 feet...say they'll stay FL 180 and below for the next 30 minutes...they're cleared into the airspace and cancel IFR...305.2
1325: FLYER flight handed off to BayWatch where they check in at 10,000 feet...say they'll be staying together today so don't need a separate squawk for the wingman...354.8

I didn't get to post those new airspace fixes for DC/MD/VA last night...will try again later today.

Okay...an F-18 makes sense. I thought the sound lingered for quite a bit and was certainly loud enough to be an afterburner, but the cloud cover was so low and heavy I couldn't see anything. I was thinking maybe the clouds were messing with the sound I was hearing. I just assumed it was an A-10 since I don't usually get anything else going that low overhead.

It also makes sense since I never heard a FLYER come back or saw any reports of one anywhere.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - The Navy said a small, inert training bomb fell Tuesday from an F/A-18C Hornet fighter jet that was heading to Oceana Naval Air Station. No one was hurt.
The Navy said in a statement that the bomb hit a wall adjacent to a warehouse in the resort city of Virginia Beach. Minimal damage was reported.
The aircraft was returning to Oceana following a training mission at the Navy's bombing range in Dare County, N.C., when it dropped the bomb. The jet landed safely at Oceana.
Navy personnel were on the scene investigating. (Copyright CBS2.com)
*************************************************************

Early in the 1100 hour, I heard F/A-18 Hornets from VFA-105 ("Gunslingers") at Oceana NAS on their unit freq 255.125. I don't know if this was the unit that is going to have a very long day. Should they change their name to "Bombslingers?"

Or maybe 'Butterfingers'?? Good thing it was a dummy - and you can bet the dummy that dropped it is going in for remedial training....73s Mike

228.9 is currently active with JEDI-2 and 3, HUNTRESS and I think I heard a tanker too.
Right now the controller for 119.85 is also transmitting on 135.525 and 350.25 from the local transmitter.

1758- CYCLONE-91 flight of two RTB Langley. 256.8

JEDI and DAGGER F-22s also working HUNTRESS on 260.9. Langley F-22As have been working HUNTRESS all day - along with the usual Giant Killer freqs.
1743: JEDI 2 is doing an exercise "punch out" as a result of battle damage...others giving position of downed crew -- 295 degrees at 66 miles...260.9
They are being very careful to pronounce this as an exercise. One of the DAGGER F-22s called his target a "dead man" just before JEDI 2 announced he was punching out...DAGGER then told HUNTRESS of his actions....JEDI F-22s are the targets for the DAGGER flight who just killed them. Nice listening.
1751: Looks like they're done for now...DAGGER flight ready to RTB through Snow Hill at 14,000 feet...260.9
1752: DAGGER 1 flight w/Giant Killer for RTB...249.8
1752: CYCLONE 91, two ship Langley F-22A flight, working GK's tac freq...312.3
1753: JEDI 31 flight for RTB...249.8
1753: DAGGER flight over to ZDC-Cape Charles...256.8 (Button 11)
1754: CYCLONE 91 flight also reports 30 miles east of Snow Hill and ready to RTB...249.8
1757: DAGGER flight w/Norfolk TRACON (East) for approach to LFI...370.925
1758: CYCLONE 91 flight w/ZDC-Cape Charles for RTB Langley at FL 200...256.8
1759: CRAB 54 (C-130J, 97-1354, 135th As MD-ANG) with Atlantic City Approach for ILS work on runway 31 at ACY...124.6

1800: For any of you New England readers, ZBW-Shelton sector freq 306.3 is active but too weak for me to copy from here.
1802: CYCLONE 91 handed off to Norfolk TRACON (button 5) by CCV controller...370.925

1815: Was on the phone for a bit and am now hearing another couple of Langley F-22A pairs working HUNTRESS...no callsigns heard yet...260.9
One of the flights is IRON.
