1213: No time to monitor today but just turned on a scanner to see if the CAP is active. It is. There is a two ship flight using 260.9 as primary, presumably with HUNTRESS, flying the Guard Dog CAP. No callsigns heard yet. Will report them only if used in the next 5-10 minutes and then I've got to run.
1216: PITMAN 35 and 36 are the fighters, F-16s, from the 20th Fighter Wing at Shaw AFB....just gave a PIREP on the wx in the CAP area...260.9
Not hearing the HUNTRESS ground controller today. Even with an open squelch it's just a faint voice that's much too weak here to pick out his words.
1231: PITMAN 35 asks HUNTRESS to call MAD DOG at DSN XXX-XXXX to confirm link usage (Link 16) before the next crew takes off to head for this area. Faintly heard HUNTRESS repeat the DSN and acknowledge...260.9
1233: While on 260.9, PITMAN 35 tells his wingman to come up "Mission Victor" and they come up on freq 141.75 (V-9) which should ID them as being from the 77th Fighter Squadron at Shaw.
1235: Back on primary 260.9, the pilots advise the weather is getting better by the minute. They also are planning their fuel for an 1845Z start for home. (1345 local time)
1237: Again on 260.9, flight leader tells wingman to go to "Comm 2" and they come up on Guard Dog's victor freq 135.525 for a radio check.
And I've been here too long already. You've got the freqs (other than refueling boom freq and the ID on TANKER XX). Back later if not for the expected overeating "sleepies."
(Late add as I go out the door....the KC-135 refueler is TANKER 04 and the boom freq is 228.9.)
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
Perhaps something you'll consider doing this holiday season:
