Haven't had much time to listen to the scanners this week other than a few minutes at a time. Wanted to mention that this morning - 0900 hour and into the 1000 hour - the offshore W-386/W-72 areas are just crawling with Langley F-15s and F-22As. Giant Killer freqs 238.1 and 249.8 are just constant traffic with aircraft entering/exiting the areas. Same for the GK ops freqs, the Norfolk TRACON freq and the Langley unit tac freqs and SOF freqs. Just after 1000, there is a DEEJAY F-22A flight climbing to 60,000 feet. He should be heard from Florida to Maine at that altitude. (Okay, slight exaggeration.)
Good listening.
Also in the 1000 hour, there was an F-16 flight of two from the DC-ANG Andrews active using the GUNNY callsign which hasn't been used in quite awhile. They went down to the Pax area to work and are returning home around 1030. Tac 139.15, TRACON 270.275 and, eventually, Tower on 349.0.
At 1035, add an ANGRY flight of two F-16s from Andrews active on tac 143.15...also calling WATERGATE on SOF freq 139.9 reporting 69 miles south of the field. To ADW Tower 349.0 for landing at 1046 but still 14 miles to the south.
The Langley DEEJAY flight is MARSA with MILLER and DEFT flights. All three are F-22A flights so the MILLER callsign needs to be added to the F-22A list. . DEEJAY and DEFT were already on the list. At least so far, once a Langley callsign goes over to the F-22A list, it doesn't seem to be used any longer by the F-15s. That rule seems to have held since the first Langley F-22A callsign was recovered
At 1100, was fairly sure I heard a DART F-22A callsign working with Giant Killer but want to hear it again before confirming it as that aircraft type....not adding it to list yet.
The Langley F-22A callsign list:
