Speaking of SBS/RB logs finding rare visitors had this one today.

AE11E6 #78-0578 E-3C SHUCK80H level 34k 2009/09/03 13:03 local
Was logged over Turkey yesterday.Must be heading home to the barn.

You're right about that one; called Patterson Metro for Tinker weather at 2000Z. Actually an E-3B, reported position as 50 miles south, FL340.

Full logs for Patterson:

VADER 08 (C-130H, 89-9108) - asked Dispatch to call DSN 346-1069 and see if their second aircraft would be heading to Atterbury; called again later with return message to Youngstown
PAT 819 (unid)
SHUCK 80 (E-3B, 78-0578) - called Metro for weather at Tinker AFB; 50 mi south, FL340
PAT 173 (unid)
JOSA 433 (C-21A, 84-0140) - no pax, 3000 lbs of fuel, picking up 1 A5 and 1 A4
??? 98 (unid, flight of two or more)
FAST 16 (T-38A, unid) - departure only
ASCOT 2531 (unid) - called Metro for weather at McGuire and Dover - anyone see where this one went?
RHINO 23 (C-5A, unid) - to KBKL?
REACH 7039 (C-5A, unid) - A1 for landing

Enroute through Dayton, likely to KBKL for the SHOW:
N7476Y (PA-30) - flight of two, reported second aircraft as an experimental Pitts
NAVY 1E 135 (TH-57C, 162821) - heard this quickly before 1E 134...possibly a mistaken callsign

NAVY 1E 109 (TH-57C, 162671)
NAVY 1E 067 (TH-57C, 162031)

Re: SBS logs/Forum

Hi Tin,

No suggestion was made to go to a Mode-S-only format here, only the comment Mark made that I responded to and which I gave my opinion on: that the content here lately has been leaning too far over to the SBS side of things...for my taste. That's just my opinion.

I enjoy the format that is usually presented here, that of supplementing voice intercepts with SBS data, but I, like, Mark, was voicing my concern not to let things here go the way of so many of the spotting/radio/gardening/you name it lists that have become overloaded with SBS logs.

Again, just my opinion and in no way should this be taken as a statement on homogenizing the content on the Forum.

Tony

Back to the discussion about SBS (or RB) reports....
First, let me say that I don't think anyone has suggested we go to a Mode-S only format here. At least I can't find where anyone has suggested that but, if I missed the post that did, please point me in the right direction so I can find it.

No, I don't want just Mode-S reports here. I want the voice logs and I want the interpretations of what you heard - but I also want the information provided by Mode-S to enhance the overall picture. I especially want the information that tells me what the flight I noted (whether on Mode-S or voice) was really doing when it reported in overhead this area.

My personal opinion of the value of Mode-S I can equate to someone that copies only police/fire voice transmissions but refuses to buy a digital capable scanner in this area. Yeah, you can get a few things and that's okay but you're sure missing the bulk of what's happening. I simply want as much information as possible so the use of every tool available is of benefit to me whether I can afford to own it or someone else owns it. Your information from whatever source is welcome and encouraged - whether it comes from a radio/scanner, Mode-S, your visit to an Air Force base or simply from reading other boards and relating the information to what was reported in this area.

But that's just me. I'm sure others don't care for all that and are satisfied with some other level of information and are perfectly content with just hearing a couple of military flights within range of their antenna. And that's fine. Everone is in the hobby for their own reasons and it doesn't need to be a homogenized outlook. It all counts and it is all welcome.

Propagation is good this morning - hearing Patterson Ground fairly well. Nothing flying besides the aero club (at least not yet).

??? 98 airborne at 1240Z. Sounds like JPAT but I doubt that's the callsign. Another aircraft taking off behind it. On course heading is 360.

I take that back, the JPAT callsign could be T-6As.

Re: Part 2 logs

Hi Ron,

Had this one as well, 25 mins. out, req. Customs and Ag., etc. Thought I heard REACH 2580 though as the callsign, but in any case this is actually Seymour Johnson AFRC CP not Pope.

Tony

1505- Reach 23580-w/Lighthouse Control (311.0-CP Pope AFB NC) & inbound msg.

Hi Mark and all,

CACTI 21 had an engine warning light on the number 3 engine and had to abort the mission.
CACTI 22 was airborne aswell and spent two hours flying approaches at Wheeler-Sack airport,
as no other (military) airport could handle them at this early time of the day .... he returned to
Pease ANGB around 1230z with 92.000 pounds of fuel remaining.

Another try tomorrow hopefully, hope this helps.

Coronet?

Guys,

In the late 1400-early 1500 hour have heard several short xmissions on 375.7 Coronet 31 C2. Can tell who it is yet. Anyone else hear these guys?

Listening more--- the xmissions are short, chopped off---sound like Have Quick in the clear. Maybe the Harrass guys in the CAP using their Have Quick system---the signals are L/C
