Don't think so...they have a schedule to keep. They would still have the ground exhibits even if they couldn't fly.

Besides, it's only a 20% chance right now and it's too far ahead to be sure about anything. By Thursday, we should have a better idea.

I don't plan to actually go on base, but plan to watch what I can from my front yard.

Yesterday evening about 6:00 PM, I heard a fighter type jet "hot dogging" which is unusual, but I could never see what it was.

Another unusual sight both yesterday and Tuesday, was a C5. I saw either 2 Tuesday or the same one twice. and heard another one land yesterday (the GE TF39 engines used on the C5 have a very distinctive sound unlikely to be confused with any other aircraft engine). I don't know what they might be delivering, but I haven't seen (or heard) a C5 at Tinker in a long time. That, of course, doesn't mean that they don't ever come here. I could just be missing them, but I remember a time when C5s were an almost daily sight (or sound).

FYI: The last two years, the Air Boss frequency has been 119.700.

We get a few C-5s...at least 2 a month. The jet you heard was the F-16B that comes in early for the thunderbirds. He (or she) was scouting landmarks.

TBirds will practice Friday at 1400. I scoped out the parking lot just north of the Sheriff Field station at 29th and Midwest Blvd. PD will probably have the streets to the east of that blocked off as they did last year.

My kids FORCED me to take them out to see the planes today. Here they are hamming it up!

Anyone have the freq's for this year? I hadn't heard anything about it till this morning. Wasn't it on the 4th last year?

Fyi

I don't know if it will be the case during the actual air show, but during practice Friday, what I would call the "Thunderbird Lead" was on 143.700 AM.

The Air Boss was 119.700.

The solo's were using uniform 1. The air boss was rather hard to hear though as if he was on low power. I was in your neck of the woods woodyrr. Not many areas to watch from since they had blocked off the area near the old GM Plant. I was told by a OCSO officer that tomorrow it would even be more difficult to get a good viewing area due to traffic control by the MWC, OCPD, and Tinker PD. I plan on going to the show so the view point for me will not be a problem. Anyone know how they feel about you bringing in a radio with you? Hate to bring it to the gate after the long walk in then have to go back to the car to put it up if its not allowed.

Radio's are allowed. The solo pilots were on Uniform 1, (235.250), the diamond team was on 143.700 which is not listed in the Monitoring Times article. I suggest putting 140-144 in a search bank; make sure you change mode to AM just to make sure since they seem to go wherever they want within a certain range.
The way this works is that the Lead (#1) talks on VHF and monitors both. the solo's talk on UHF and monitor both so you will hear lead take "roll call" often and 1-4 answer on VHF and 5-6 answer on UHF. THis way everyone is in the loop but they don't interfere with the other group.
I suggest you use some kind of headset or earpiece as it can get loud occasionally. Also 123.15 was active with the parachute team and the Red Eagles. Air Boss was on 119.700.

Have fun and stay cool.

Air Boss

Thanks for the air boss freq thats all I needed. Monitoring times had the new freqs on their blog. I always enjoy the air show issue. 143.700 was what I monitored when they arrived on thurs also. I just hope the weather gives up some sunshine. I also enjoy taking pics.
Must be cool to work out there.
I saw the guppy pic on air show buzz.

Thanks Ed

Still More Incoherent Ramblings from the Elderly!

AARGHH!!! Yes, I’m older than Grandpa Simpson and almost as interesting to listen to.

While it is true that KK5FM has a “radio command easy chair”, I have a walker with a custom communications console. It looks like the master control room at channel 5 mounted on the handlebars. There is a pouch for my cordless phone, my oxygen, and my "Clapper". There are also tennis balls on the bottoms of the legs that glide along the ground while I'm playing in the "over the hill and one foot in the grave" soccer league.

No, I never worked for the “Rock” in addition to radios and airplanes, I am also interested in trains and the Rock Island is my favorite.

I don’t see much of the air show from my front yard, but it sure beats getting caught up in the cattle drive.

Does anybody know if there is supposed to be a B2 flyby this year? I heard them talking to it last year and was able to get the jump on it, but my pictures are a little fuzzy. I don’t think that my auto focus worked correctly.

I might mention that I think that my 396 prefers to have 143.700 designated as an AM frequency. Before I changed the modulation to AM from AUTO, the audio was pretty crummy. I don’t know if 143.700 is in a band that normally uses AM and, if not, some scanners might try to automatically assign FM to the signal.

I hope that everybody stays cool and doesn't get too sunburned.

Touche! Man, I'm jealous...;) BTW, there is a new upgrade where the static electricity generated by the tennis balls charges your batteries. You probably already have the generator for the front wheels!!

I'm planning on just parking out at the GM plant and riding in on the bus. That worked out pretty good last year. Or I may try to park next to where I work on base; that's a lot closer. We shall see...we shall see.

Stay Hydrated!! I'm sure the ambulance services will be busy with those that don't.

I haven't heard anything about a B-2 and the schedule in the base paper doesn't mention one so I guess not.

It was hotter than hell this year but a good show nonetheless. Lots of traffic everywhere including MWC ambulance, Tinker Medical net and others. People were dropping like flies.

Ha .....Ha......just kidding about old..... Woody. My brother worked at the Rock and I knew it had been gone for a while.
Wow was it hot at the air show......
My wife lucked out and snagged two vip passes and we got to sit under the tents but she still got red and she did use 45 sunscreen. We chug-a-luged a lot of water.
Too bad they all did a low altitude show but I still got a few good pics.
I noticed a lot of people parked on the end of the runway on 29th street but with the low ceiling I am guessing the viewing wasn't that good from 29th street.
I always enjoy seeing the T-Birds.
Had a good copy on the planes and the air boss. My old Pro43 scanner went intermittent today and that really was sour. I've had that scanner 20 years I guess, but my uniden 250 was still working. I can see at that kind of air show you could use at least 3 scanners to monitor everything continuously.
Scanner shopping for fathers day I guess....ha
