If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi,

On our ambulances are Vertex Mobile radios that were installed when we bought the ambulances that I can't identify.

I've taken them off and looked for a model number but there isn't any on the part of the radio that is accessible.

These radios are very thin, maybe 2-3 inches thick so I'm assuming that there must be another part of the radio installed somewhere within the ambulance.

I can take a picture of the radio if that would be helpful.

I need to identify the radios since our County is going to Narrowband in the next couple months and I need to buy the programming software/cables for these radios.

If someone could tell me what to look for that might contain the model number that would be most helpful.

Thanks!!!

Well, without a pic and with the lack of info from you we would need a pic to be posted.
Preferably that would include not just the control head but also the main radio chassis.

If that thin part is just a control head and the main chassis is elsewhere then all you need to
do is trace the control cable connected to the head back to the main chassis and try and
locate a model number on the radio main chassis.

If there is a separate control head on the dash, thats as small as you say, its got to be either a VX-4000 or VX-6000 model radio.

Thanks for your help, I finally found the chassis of the radio behind the drivers seat...it is a VX-6000V.

I got a copy of Vertex CE49 software and have a programming cable for my VX-924 that as far as I can tell uses the same cable as the VX-6000, but it can't "read" the radio...it says "trying to read the radio" or something like that with a changing number after it (I'm hanging upside down behind the seat, trying to hold onto my laptop and keep the cable plugged in so it's hard to write down the error message)...

The version of CE49 is V5.00, maybe it's too old? Anyone know what the current version is?

Thanks again for the help identifying the radio!!!

Thanks for the page...I did call Vertex before I posted and they said I needed CE49, and the name of the software is CE49Win for VX4000_5500_6000...but it is dated 2002 so maybe they've updated their numbers. I'll give the folks at RFwiz a call since I've bought things from them in the past...

Thanks!!!

You have to set the radio in program mode, prior to reading the radio. If I recall, you have to turn the radio off, press and hold one of the buttons, and then turn on. It should then read PC Clone, and then you can upload.

Turn the power off. Then hold down the button below the power switch and turn the power back on while holding the other button down till the radio beeps. It then should say pc clone.
