Uniden America to launch newest flagship scanners

Those older GRE radios are sure some nice units still. Even though most of them can't decode Phase II TDMA except for the PSR 800 these radios were the best on the market especially being able to digital decode properly. Thats why I bought a GRE PSR 600. I do miss some features of the Uniden BCD 996XT too. Its a trade off.

Less than 1 day and counting. See you at the Dog and Pony Show Kids. Hopefully there will be a lot of popcorn and butter to go with it.

Shoot, I would be happy with any Uniden scanner that comes out if it could just decode ALL P25 systems all well as the GRE digital scanners perform.

I'd be happy with:

a quality built radio that doesn't feel like some cheap FRS radio, properly receives and decodes CQPSK modulation, phase 2 support- NXDN and/or DMR would be nice (but most likely a pipe dream).

I will be the first one to put down a chunk o' bucks IF and ONLY IF the radio is actually designed for RADIO people and not more of this consumer grade garbage with touch screens (which break, generate RFI, and are a PITA), poor RF performance, a lack of proper CQPSK demodulator- etc.

i just hope i wont be restrained to 1, 2, and 5 second delay times. an added bonus would be being able to set the delay on each individual channel, as opposed to an entire group.

My suggestion with your needs would be to get a commercial grade Motorola XTS 5000 or APX 7000 radio and your worries have all gone away with the CQPSK demodulator issues with your trunking simulacast systems. You will get a great experience and a solid feel for a great radio. But it will cost you but you won't be dis-appointed for sure.

The CQPSK setting on the commerical radio you will get the option to either using C4FM or CQPSK and its all fixed.

I have a table full of digital LMR radios (XTS/XTLs, Astro Spectra Plus, XPR6550s, NX700 to name a few). I am well aware of how well they work for scanning purposes, though that is not the only or primary reason I own them.

A scanner does not require system keys, cannot in anyway affiliate, and allows a user to search for new talkgroups and frequencies- something no commercial radio is (and most likely never will be) capable of doing.

CQPSK is not expensive, it just takes a different method of circuit design to accomplish. This method of simulcast isn't going away. Scanners should be manufactured to support it. The first one who does will get a large order from me.

With an APX series radio, Motorola CPS and A little know-how anything is possible. XTS series radios are obsolete.

yes, we all know trunking radios make superior receivers, we all know they can be programmed on trunking systems by qualified persons, however...

this thread is about Unidens' upcoming product release. Speaking as a scanner enthusiast and scanner owner/user, I would like to see the new products incorporate the ability to properly decode the popular (and growing) number of CQPSK simulcast trunked radio systems.

I am sure I am not alone here.

Hopefully, Uniden has heard our demands for such a product, and tomorrow we shall see if this call was answered by them. If not, their new competition has an opportunity to have a competitive edge should they choose to market such a receiver.

Uniden's Next Move...

With Uniden coming out with these new scanners and after reading and rereading the posts here and in the Uniden forum, there are many scanner enthusiasts who have a very large “wish” lists for what these new scanners will monitor successfully. Bless them and I hope there wish lists bells and whistles ALL come true.

However, My priority list and “realistically” is relatively small on a few IMPORTANT and NECESSARY items. (Picking up where GRE left off with the PSR-800)

• Properly decode the popular (and growing) number of CQPSK simulcast trunked radio systems.(Multi path Issue improvements)
• Project 25 Phase II TDMA modulation in the least if not ALL P25 Modes preferable.


NXDN, Mototrbo and amateur D-STAR and IDAS perhaps?

I have been rocking my BC250D for 10 years now and effectively skiped a least a full generation of scanners from Uniden. I am very happy with my product and hope the next one I buy lives up to the same standard and quality. Fortunately, I live in a border market where my 250d & 796d are still compatible with the systems here. The only hope/request (though a little late now) is that the voice codec is significantly improved from what I have with my older models. I would like to enjoy digital voice as much as I currently enjoy analog and I know the codecs are out there to do this. Thanks Uniden for continuing to play in this space with the fragmented market that is between full-on radio geeks to the scanner novice. I realize this requires significant R&D to get the products right. Your efforts are appreciated!

I would be happy just to see the following in a new Uniden scanner:

1. Support for P25 Phase II TDMA
2. Support for more than 500 talkgroups per trunked system
3. Improved scanning speed on conventional and trunked systems

Being able to toggle an attenuator or mode instead of 9 keysteps while the signal goes away seems like common sense (Pro 2045) but the 780XLT disagrees. Is there anybody listening? I've seen the news, and there's not much I can do ......alone.

EDACS is going away in a few years and presumably ProVoice will go with it, so I'm not sure investing in ProVoice decoding at this late stage would be worth it for Uniden. For new formats, the increasingly popular, relatively cheap DMR/Mototrbo would seem to make more sense.
