Here's the latest update on the Remote Head. I have the site up and ready, the issues were seeing now is the availability of the hardware. Mancow has a few devices built and ready, 5 in total I believe. I have parts on order for 5 devices. The plan is to open the website to the public on Friday. The site will take a pre-order request, which will send an email to us. At this time the plan due to hardware availability, is to limit the purchases to one per valid email account. Once we receive the email, you will receive an email from us that will include a PayPal button for the purchase of the device. We're looking into using an Amazon pay button as well. Unlike most hardware devices, there aren't bulk discounts available for the purchase, actually the opposite is happening. If they have them, they won't sell them in bulk, or if they do, the purchase price goes up. The original device we used is a Raspberry Pi 4 with 2 GB of ram. This device is almost non existent, and can't found. Everyplace we checked has them on order or out of stock. Instead, we are looking at using the Raspberry Pi 4 with 4GB of ram, these are more readily available, but it will add to the cost. We are trying to keep the costs low. We have decided to not take prepaid orders as we cannot control the availability of the hardware.

If you have any questions please let either of us know, here or via pm.

I've been following this post quietly, and had some obeservations.

I thought the screw patterns on the rear were to mount a standard RAM ball to the case. I see the fan in these pictures (See Post #469), and looks like that option is out. How securely does the X-grip hold the display? I've had issues with my current I phone in a OtterBox case popping out of a X grip on rough roads, so I was concerned.

Also, is there an audio output on the display? If so, is it suitable for an external speaker? If yes to both of the previous, does it overcome the SDS100 audio out limit?
Sure, the new website is almost up for ordering.

The present case does not allow the standard ball mount to be attached directly to it. The cases I've used are below. They both have the ball mount functionality that can connect to the standard RAM mount systems. I haven't driven my truck off road while using the remote head so I can't really speak to the holding strength of the 2 mounts listed below. We are exploring different case options as well as having a custom case made for the device. If we go that reoute, I agree that the option to have the Ball mount directly to the case is the way to go.

This is IMO the strongest mount for the device.

This mount also works.

As far as the audio output, that is in development. We're also exploring various options for output, as well as connectivity to the scanner. We will have to map the functionality to that of the scanner it is attached to, i.e. the 536 has the wifi functionality whereas the 436 does not. It works now with the 436, 536, SDS100 and the SDS200. Were looking at potentially adding the other Uniden scanners, the 996 Series as well as the BCT15 X series. We have many ideas planned for implementation, but felt that it was better to get the product out and in use, instead of waiting for the additional functionality to be implemented.

In my ideal world, it would be a 1 wire connection to an external battery pack or a wall power adapter, the rest could and hopefully will be wireless.

It sounds like ya'll are ahead of the curve then. I appreciate the effort ya'll are putting into it. If it did everything you and Mancow have shown so far, along with the Ram mount on the case, and speaker level output for the SDS100, I know I'd purchase one. This device would address all the shortcomings I have with using the SDS100 in a commercial company vehicle in varying terrain with a high noise floor at times.
Thank ya'll for what you are doing. I hope to see it come to market.

Thank you. Mancow and I have spent a lot of time working towards making this and making it happen. The site will be live Friday.

Yes I know, 1st post in over 10 years of membership, I joined mainly to use the database for frequencies. I don't really have much to say anyway, so I'll just read what is going on here from time to time instead.

Anyway, I have been following along and have been drooling over this for a while, and have a question. Where do we find the site you are using for ordering this when it goes live tomorrow?

It will be posted right here on this thread, in this forum.

As promised here is the link to the Touch Scanner website.

Things to keep in mind.

Hardware to build these is scarce.
Costs to purchase hardware seems to increase consistently. Volume purchasing is not usually an option for the Raspberry 4 Pi's.
Only 1 purchase per valid email address until more hardware becomes available.
Please be patient, we will work the kinks out of the process as we move forward and more hardware becomes available.

Thanks

This is an update for those that have submitted the interest request form from the site.

1. We will be processing the orders as they come in, we've processed the first 6 this morning.
2. The order that the interest request was submitted is the order in which we're process the requests.
3. If you've submitted an interest request PLEASE do not submit a second request. We will get to the submissions as we have the hardware available to complete the order.
4. Please be patient, the lack of hardware is the hurdle we're dealing with right now.
5. We have orders already placed with the vendors for hardware, we're just waiting on the hardware to arrive to build the devices.
6. Please use the support email address listed on the website if you have any questions. We cannot answer every question as to where you are on the order list. Both myself and mancow have full time jobs.

Thank you for supporting us and most importantly being patient with the process that we have put into place. We will make changes to streamline the process as we move forward.

RA7850 and Mancow, first thank you for all of your work and your contributions to furthering the hobby. I may have missed it, but if I didn't, have you considered placing a price range... maybe something like, "planned to start at or around $xxx" on your website? The only reason I mentioned this is because it may contribute to fewer sign-ups from those who are not fully interested. I signed up because I'm certainly interested, but price will also be a determining factor once you get to my name since I don't already know it.

For right now, due to hardware availability we're restricting sales to 1 device per valid email address.

Robert
Hi Robert.....yes I understand only 1 per email right now.

What I was trying to get at is once you remove the restriction and you have already filled the 12,683 orders you had for them.....how do I ensure that I'm order # 12,684? I guess what I'm asking is how do I get in the que or line so I can place an order for a second one?

Also...a big thank you to yourself & Mancow for the hard work in making this project a reality. My opinion is the SDS line should have never left the factory without a remote head option in place. But what do I know!!!

Looking forward to getting in my hands!!!

Right now the process is to use the online form as the queue, it is date and time stamped. That is the order were going to follow. I plan on removing the link to the online form after 50 orders have been received. We will not pre-charge anyone without having the hardware to build their device. The way you will know where you are in the queue is that you will get the custom buy now PayPal/credit card button via an email message from us.

Please don't submit more than 1 request as they are cross checked against the orders that have already been processed. Doing it this way will allow each person to get at least one device. It makes more work on our end to process and do the validations but we believe it is the most fair way to accomplish this with the hardware availability limitations that exist today.
