Bricked My PSR-800

Update on my WS-1080 went great!

On my (Whistler upgraded) PSR-800 it failed.

Wiped the CPU code and when it went to re-write the CPU the process failed.

Radio is hung CPU SW Upgrade: - Wait.

Have rebooted laptop, pulled batteries in radio, etc. etc.

Have an errand to run and then I'll try to re-install the serial driver when I can get back to it later today.

What is the status of your update? Did you get it working again?

Has anyone had an issue with a suspicious file warning from norton with this update? (It the 1095 EZscan SW)

I got that popup message with a "high risk" flag when I attempted the new update this morning so I closed/didn't continue the update. Now the program is frozen with the library DB update box and another warning that says "external exception C0FB007E". The only way to close out is to run task manager. I've restarted the computer and keep getting the same results- opens the program and goes right to the LDB extraction and freezes.

I'm hesitant to do an unistall but is that the next/only option...? Also, should I have just continued to run the new file and disregarded the norton suspicious detection?

Thanks for any help.

Will this update "decode" NXDN control channels and allow 3.125 khz frequency entry? Yes...I submitted this previously to Whistler.

Thought I had it but now when the CPU is shows 100% updated I'm getting an error message 'Update Failed, the scanner talked talking to the PC".

Needless to say I'm somewhat triggered right now..

Guess I'll call Whistler and see if they can do anything.

The warning is probably just Norton saying this is a new file they haven't seen many people downloading yet. If it actually thought it saw a virus or something it'd surely tell you what it thought it detected. So I suggest you just ignore the warning.

Tools on Whistler's Website for Upgraded Legacy Scanners

Whistler has upgrade tools on their website for legacy scanners that are upgraded.

I had to use it vs. Ez-Scan.

Hopefully this information will save some of you some aggravation.

The scanner control logging is working well, but is there a setting (or perhaps future update, if not) that will display Radio ID Alpha Tags?

Thanks for listening.

Had the same issue updating, when I used the "check for CPU update only " in the update drop down it worked perfectly.

The procedure I always use, and which has always worked:

1. (BEFORE connecting the scanner to the computer). Open the EZScan software. If a pop-up opens saying "Check for all updates", select "Skip for this run". The pop-up will go away.
2. Temporarily turn off anti-virus program
3. Along the top menu bar, click on "Updates", then "Check for PC application update". Allow EZScan to update itself
4. Turn your anti-virus back on and connect the scanner to the computer
5. Again click on "Updates" on the top menu bar, then select "Check for all updates"
6. Be patient, give it at least ten minutes to update the CPU, firmware, and library.
7. Disconnect the scanner by removing it safely from Windows.

From everything I've seen since the first remote demo release, the Whistler provided remote control app is simply a DEMO of what is possible. I suspect from this point that they are trying to encourage others (commercially or scanner users) to develop (and sell or otherwise offer) their solution to others.

There's nothing wrong with asking for features but I wouldn't expect Whistler to extend the app given their posted position on this (it's a demo).

No, I don't think so. They refuse to release the protocols to anyone to make it possible to create third party solutions. Butel have tried.

Hi There,

You might want to read the last sentence in the very first post of this thread.

It would appear they have modified their standing on this matter. [emoji4]

So, the question is: is the latest update for the 1080 working okay or not? I've been hearing various horror stores about removing the batteries in order to get the June 30 update to load.
Can anyone confirm this before I lock-up my radio?
Wendy Whistler- is the June 30 update okay, or do we wait for a slight revision? Thanks.
