Date to mark on calendars.....July 2025. Anticipated date to flip the viper switch for phase 2 unless something major changes. Phase 2 will be fun. Glad I got my APX ready

Appreciate the update, if you are able to tell me, where did this date come from?

They've been updaing them and previously said all agencies need to be P2 capable by 2025, so I doubt it will be earlier, especially since (in the document from @drayd48 ) it says "Effective 1 July, 2025 all radios currently active on the VIPER system, along with all future additions to the system shall be ready to receive TDMA programming. "

Correct. It’s not just about the towers being upgraded, but also the radios being switched over and reprogrammed

Now it is just getting agencies to update their radios and use them.
Yes! I updated our fleet a year ago. I’ve gotten two calls in the last week from primary users of the new talk groups that just are getting around to it. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Thanks didn't notice (or remember) the July date being in there. Appreciate it.
Reference this instead. Now all radios added after 1/1/2023 have to already be flashed for P2 where before they just had to be P2 capable by 1/1/2020. They’ve also added a section regarding encryption…

2025 ?!?!?!

boy some of you guys really plan ahead don't ya?
What @N1GAW said and the fact that when VIPER goes Phase II, I bet a lot of other systems will follow. I know the UASI system is staying on the same timeline as VIPER and it wouldn't surprise me if more counties follow the same timeline such as Guildford, Wake, and Durham. So if you have more than one scanner they will most likely all need to be updated.

municipality of great state of insanity
well my comment has less to do with radio protocols and more to do with my fatalistic perspective on life i suppose.

ya'll are worried about money management, i am thinking about "wow three years from now...that's like forever and stuff, ya know dude?"

not to mention the fact that most people that hang on to this hobby for the next three years are bound to crumble at some point and buy a P2 scanner just cause its new and shiny.

ya'll know exactly what i am talking about.

*all the divorced guys cheer "hell yeah we do!"*
