I noticed new USCG talkgroups added to VIPER. Can someone explain what those TG are for and what sites they are on?
They are on any site that the USCG operations are being conducted near, it could be used for SAR or disasters like the recent hurricanes.

Has anyone heard anything on the Statewide TGs', about a missing 83yr.-old woman(Alice Parsons) last seen in Roxboro in Person County. She lives in the same Chatham County community I live in. People throughout the community are concerned about her well-being.
I don't necessarily have an answer to your question but last week I heard 2 different USCG Helos, 1 was on their current USCG TG:52006, they were in the Elizabeth City area talking to their HQ in Elizabeth City. The other was on the new USCG Primary TG:61450, they were in the Elizabeth City area, talking to their HQ or somebody in Pender or Wilmington. Not sure what they're going to do with TG:52006.

I live In Cedar Bluff VA (Tazewell County) and I'm trying to Receive the NC Viper System for NCHP and I'm 3 driving hours from Charlotte NC. I'm connected by an outdoor antenna on my Whistler TRX2 and was wondering what sites I would be able to safely receive? VA State Police is fixing to go 100% Fully Encrypted. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Phoenix Mountain site is probably your best bet. There’s still a lot of peaks between you and NC though.
I would be rather surprised if you can pick up any VIPER sites from that area. Maybe you could receive something from atop some of the high-elevation peaks in the region, but otherwise I would suspect you are out of luck.
The nearest site is roughly 40 air miles from you and the coverage radius for that one is south of Chilhowie. Which is 20 air miles south of you and obviously there are some hills in the way. You may get lucky with a yagi pointed in that direction but don't bet your house on it.

Are you able to tell if the messages are Phase 2 or still Phase 1? Someone mentioned they were testing the new P2 in some areas.

all i could come up with was upgrading radios don't know how to determine phase 2, using a bcd 996p2
Have not seen P2 in my area yet on the VIPER. From what I am hearing is they are still planning on July 2025. The county has been doing flash upgraded on their mobiles and portables.
Reports from another member said they are doing limited testing in some areas
