I'm trying to update the programming on my Uniden 396XT. I'm using ProScan, and importing the Wake County Fire and Police talkgroups along with the Wake Simulcast and Cary Simulcast frequencies. The programming seems to be working, but I'm not hearing anything. What am I missing or doing wrong?

Could this be a P25 phase 2 system that I'm trying to listen to on a P25 phase 1 scanner? My SDS 200's are quite talkative, but the 396XT is not.
(albeit I did get a few hits between posting this message and typing the last sentence when editing this message a few minutes later. )

This is not a VIPER system, the thread you posted in. but that said to hear the wake system only program in SITE 2 control/alt frequencies and TGs above 46800 on the Cary/Wake system. It is a Phase 1 system.

It sounded like you didn't have the page for the new system.

Any idea which of those frequencies or control channels come from the Durant tower and which come from the Holly Springs(?) tower? I'd like to test whether using only one set of frequencies and control channels improves simulcast distortion.

Please let me know if I'm misunderstanding the relationship between simulcast distortion, transmissions from multiple towers, and frequencies and control channels.

Try both sets. But not at the same time.

Was the analog channel for 'WC EMS ALERT' shutdown in favor of the digital channel on Cary/Wake25? I was getting marginal traffic on the analog channel. But not the digital channel.

They have analog VHF frequencies for fire/ems alerts in the 154/156 MHz range. This is what he was talking about.

Well, The essence of my asking. More than saying I was having trouble hearing the analog, is. Why does Wake County have both analog, and digital for 'WC EMS ALERT'? Is the TG just a backup?

They are using Motorola Minitor 5 pagers for EMS which are only analog, so thats why the VHF system is still active. There is a VHF alerting frequency for EMS, but there is also one for fire (154.19). I was able to secure the tones for Holly Springs fire, and now have a Minitor IV that only alerts for call in HS which is really cool.

The fire members who are on duty have a quick call setting on their 800 portables and use it when on duty for alerting.

Just a reception report -- handheld Unication G5 inside the house down by Wilson's Mills in Johnston County, getting 3 to 4 bars and great decodes.

And as the opposite, from just south of downtown Raleigh picking up Johnston Co with 1-3 bars for the first time now that I'm using a G4.

Quick update - I've received my EM-B11809 Yagi antenna, just waiting on an adapter to hook up to my LMR-400 feed line. I have temporarily taped the N female and PL259 ends together just to get a taste... For now I'm aiming NNE towards Site 5 of the Wake County P25 system. (This is nearly in-line with a VIPER site, as my goal is to receive both with near-perfect decoding percentage.)

Even with this temporary (jenky) setup, I am seeing improved audio decode performance. :p Can't wait for that adapter to arrive.. Then the real fun begins with aiming! I am a bit concerned I'll still get simulcast distortion coming from the rear lobe of the Yagi, because pointing at Site 5 puts Site 3 almost directly behind me. Similar concerns with pointing towards Site 1 or 2. If this does prove to be an issue, perhaps I'll play with attenuation or shoot towards Site 6 (which would have no other site 'behind' the antenna).

Finally, thanks for all of the talkgroup updates! I'm very excited to get those in to the scanner and really fine-tune my installation!

Thank you @trumpetman for updating the RR database with the additional talkgroups for this new system.

Looking at my logs there are still about 70 active talkgroups (several encrypted) that we have not identified. Raleigh Fire has 3 encrypted talkgroups, and Wake EMS has two or three encrypted talkgroups that I wish I knew what they were used for (maybe admin or district chiefs), if anyone has any info on these, or the new Hazmat talkgroups I'd really appreciate a message from you.
