It's simple, gents -- convenience store diagnosis notwithstanding:

Uniden sent out defective merchandise -- with which many denizens of this venue were stuck. UPMan knows, or can find out, if these defects were remedied in subsequent production runs. The ethical thing to do would be to supply that information so that no one else gets stuck with Uniden's problem.

The Man's silence on this matter leads me to conclude that Uniden prefers to fight this battle on the back end, i.e., let folks buy this junk still out there and maybe, just maybe, live with it owing to the hassle of taking action. The facts support that conclusion, and I find those corporate metrics reprehensible. Your mileage may vary.

So "live [sic]" your Uniden. Look up that pathology in the DSM V while you're half-baking. Be secure: the Man loves you.

Do you have one of those pieces of paper on your car window that says you're not driving, you're traveling, and you don't consent to conversation with a police officer without entering into a contract?

Love it, Jay. I try not to mess with a tiger with more teeth unless a) there is motivation, and b) the odds are in my favor. The tiger here is toothless.

I prefer the term "psychopathology" and I am quite familiar with said diagnostic manual since I use it daily. I know that there is no reference to the type of conditioned mentioned. I even looked in the section "Other Conditions That May Be A Focus of Clinical Attention." It was not listed.

Most people who use "armchair diagnostics" are not licensed. My point was spot-on. I am unfamiliar with "half-baking" since this was not ostensively defined, particularly in the context of my previous statements. However, I did have a bit of difficulty with my dyslexia. Yes, I LOVE my Uniden 436HP. LOL, thanks for the humorous remark. My coworkers and I had a belly laugh thanks to your great sense of humor & familiarity with the DSM-V.

I saw a coffee cup the other day that said, "Do not confuse your Google search with my Medical Degree." Seems apropos of some online discussions.

David my junk is working better than ever and may be looking to expand and buy more junk. They can go tell google to build the scanner they want.

It will be amusing when you actually get stuck with a defective unit. I can see it now you whining like a 2 year old.

So to answer you statement/question the BCD536HP s/n 5800xxxx series appears to have the problems resolved with the LED and RTC! Don't begin to ask how you would know if Amazon sales or sellers have 5800xxxx series, we wouldn't know but someone at a walk-in retailer would be able by showing you the box, or call Jeff at the Ham Station Contact the Ham Station, they may be able to help you track down a 5800xxxx series BCD536HP.

P.S. Remember Volatile memory (i.e. SD cards) will always fail at a higher rate than NON-volatile memory, it doesn't make either junkie, it makes 1 Upgradable and the other more stable (at the cost of being non-upgradable and relatively small)

I've been an infrequent visitor here since the unmasking and ensuing discourse involving the several manufacturing/design defects of the x36 radios -- this in spite of Voyager's often creative, albeit thin defenses of Uniden's honor. So, I may have missed UPMan's answer to this question: do current production runs of x36 radios have the same old problems (e.g., the display LED issue, for example) or have these problems been addressed?

If so, care to give us a serial number threshold beyond which it is "safe" to acquire an x36, UPMan? I'm guessing we know the answer to this question.

I would avoid the line and wait till the 6xx series with the 5xx features that are buggy and not have arrived, better reliable hardware to arrive working on the 6xx series.

Maybe DMR I,II will arrive on the 6xx series as well.

Curious why do you care so much. if you do not own one, just wait till the 600 series. It would be foolish to buy the current models. I am waiting patiently. In the mean time I am monitoring everything I need with a MD-380 and SDR#

I did own (past tense) both the 436 and 536 and got burned. I don't like to get burned by purposely false advertising and poor quality control. That kind of corporate greed needs to be opposed. Reason enough?

The only problem with that thinking (and I certainly respect your feelings), is that there will never be a "perfect" scanner. I waited a year before getting involved in the x36 series, and I enjoyed my HP-1 very much. But it was time for P25 Phase 2, so I took the plunge, and I am extremely happy with both the 536 and the 436, which a bought about a month later.

I do appreciate folks timidness with getting involved in the current x36 series, but (when they work right), there is no better radio available. It's also true that the 436 and 536 may be coming to the end of their product cycle, and perhaps there will be a 437 and 537 sometime during 2016

But almost assuredly, any new series with also have certain birthing and growing pains, so it could be 6 months to a year after their introduction before they "stabilize". One thing is for sure---- I'm sure the no one (well, hardly anyone, at least), is going to purchase a new Uniden series radio unless the features advertised are already incorporated into the radios.

I don't think there will be many folks buying something new based on a "promise" that features will be available sometime in the future will be banging down the doors at Uniden to make a purchase.

It's certain your buddy UPMan didn't tell him. He's way too busy selling ProVoice upgrades to the few.

Well, that (promotion of sales) is his job, and as production is conducted on a different continent and under a different division, I would not be surprised if he didn't know.

So, my question stands: How is it known that there is a specific cutoff to where they changed the parts in the production line? I'm not saying it doesn't exist. I just want to know if the source is credible or if it's just someone's WAG. (first word Wild and last word Guess)
