So is it possible to purchase a 436hp now without having to immediately send it to Uniden for repair. Who wants to do that. I have tried 3 and they all sucked with very poor LED lighting. Don't know if I'm stupid enough to buy a fourth.....

Why are you so set on the 436? Get an HP2. I bought one 6 months ago and never had a single problem.

I wanted to like the 436 have had 3 and all 3 suffered the much discussed issues. I have an HP 2 but don't care for it much it's more of a toy not really a radio for a serious hobbyist. If the 436 did everything it was suppose to do and had a better display there would be no better handheld. I just bought a WS1088 and it's a fantastic scanner. I have given up on the 436 and will not buy another until or if they replace it with a new model. It irks me to no end that defective units out of the box are still being sold often times to unsuspecting folks who have no clue they just bought junk....

Do you think you can stop minimizing Paying customers opinion, if you don't work for them, STH.

Stating a truth is not minimizing anything or anyone. But, I know you have to criticize Uniden because it's what you do...

Newly designed units ARE entering the distribution chain, as evidenced in another thread.

BTW, does your Whistler "junk" (apparently your term for "scanner") still have the overload issues? Why are they still selling units with a known flaw?

Fact is ANY product will have issues. If you wait for the perfect scanner, you will never own a scanner.

A really serious hobbyist would be able to understand all of the features, options, and potential of the Home Patrol 2, and would never make a statement like that.

Not expecting the perfect scanner. I am expecting to get what I paid for. Deceptive false advertising is inexcusable.

I have had a few scanners over the years. I don't remember any that did not have the advertised features after two years.

You can keep making excuses for Uniden. I do not believe for a second they got bad parts. It is more like they put the part in the wrong application, aka design flaw. The reported redesign of the battery for the RTC is proof of that.

You're entitled to denial. And what redesign? I have yet to read exactly what changed on the RTC.

Of course - nobody gets bad parts. That's what all the parts manufacturers say, too. There are also no counterfeits in the market, and the SD cards never fail, and the Easter Bunny is real.

Just my 2 cents...

I've owned a 536HP for just over a week now. I purchased it from Advanced Specialties here in NJ and received a unit with a 48XXX serial number. So far, so good, but I'm a bit disturbed by the numerous problems other owners are experiencing. Still, the sensitivity seems to be very good, P25 performance is fine, and I like the ease of programming with the Sentinel software.

I've always felt confident buying Uniden products. My first scanner was a BC-140 back in 1988. I've purchased many Uniden (& Radio Shack) scanners in the ensuing years, including the 210XLT, 890XLT, 895XLT, 780XLT, & 996T. Not one of them gave me any issues or failed to perform as advertised.

Hopefully Uniden will work out the issues with the x36 radios and they continue to introduce new, innovative products. I would hate to see them pull out of the scanner business altogether.

They already have the fix for the hardware issues (which affect none of the things you mentioned).

Don't panic. Enjoy your 536--- it's the best, most innovative scanner ever made available to the general public. I've had mine about 5 months--- just to be on the safe side, I run the display illumination at less than maximum. Ditto with my 436, which I bought several months ago.

More a commentary on the sad state of current offerings than a ringing endorsement, eh M? Not all that unlike saying that the Titanic was "the best, most innovative" ship available in 1912, which it was. Sorry, junk -- albeit the best available junk -- is still junk.

Sail on, Voyager.

Not going to waste the time reading all of this, but if you aren't happy with the product they are offering, then shop elsewhere. Is it really that hard?

Listen to this feed based on the BCD536HP: Irving Police and Fire

That's all the confirmation I need to label this thing a POS. I cannot believe people put up with this crap... truly unbelievable.

My HP-2 sounds just as bad on a phase 2 simulcast system. These scanners are just not built to handle these types of systems.

If the setting are set-up wrong or the signal is distant then they can't decode properly, just as old analog would be scratchy as hell, if this isn't your scanner feed I can't help; if it is, private message me, I have a few thing you can try. But another persons bad set-up should NOT be a condemnation of all HP series scanners.

Your constant conflation of bad batteries & bulbs, no android app yet, and customer support; goes to show your inherent lack of knowledge of the consumer based scanner industry. Let me fill you in: every scanner has a poor area in which it fails against it competitor, that usually lies in the area of reception (the grandest most important area of all). So to except these failures individually, you can surely understand the most important feature is to hear you local system, if it's phase 2 these bcdx36hp scanners are pretty darn capable, but Uniden is certainly at fault for all the other flaws with production & support. U.I. problems have been addressed with other lines, Uniden produced; some as far out at 8 years from initial release, so holding out hope isn't just a wish or prayer.

Do not continue participating if your reviews are going to be fact-less and base-less, you are like the consumers that put reviews on Amazon,"it's great," "it's perfect for what I use it for, " "it's crap, it don't work," "it's a waste of time," "awesome," "junk." You haven't been comprehensively detailed about what actually bothers you so much about these scanner. It's kind of like a consumer saying Motorola phones suck, when's actually the coverage area with Verizon that sucks, but all because he never looked at the coverage map before purchasing; so the only thing that actually sucks is him.

I have the 436 and the 536 and paid over a $1,000.00 for the pair and got my money's worth. They are worth every penny I paid and work as I expected them to after reading reviews before I bought them. I bet you are crying about the 436 536 line and have never owned either one. You making you assessment from a online feed shows just how smart you are how do you know the feed provider has the scanner setup right how do you know the computer is not distorting the audio

For all anyone knows this feed is operating with a radio underground. Not a fair assessment of the BCD536HP since we know NOTHING of the many factors necessary to get a clean radio signal (antenna, signal strength for starters), but I'm sure I won't convince you of that .

I guess it's just location. My HP-2 is scanning away on NJICS clear as a bell.
