No one ever answered the question!!

So is it possible to purchase a 436hp now without having to immediately send it to Uniden for repair. Who wants to do that. I have tried 3 and they all sucked with very poor LED lighting. Don't know if I'm stupid enough to buy a fourth.....

No one has answered the question.... because Uniden hasn't answered the question.

There has been no official announcement or information released from Uniden as to a cut-off point for affected serial numbers.

Anything else posted in the forums is strictly rumor and guess work at this point. If you can't handle the repair process, don't buy one.

Repair process on a brand "new" radio

This whole thing with these 2 models has been laughable for what close to 2 years. You don't put down several hundred dollars for a "NEW' item and then have to send it to be "fixed"...I'm done with Uniden too bad because I have every scanner they've ever made. And I don't recall asking you whether I should buy one or not.....

I see we're starting the new year off in a good mood. :D

And before anyone jumps down my throat, I didn't mention any specific person...

Can someone recommend a car that isn't going to be subject to any recalls? They cost tens of thousands of dollars, so you should be able to buy one, right?

BTW, why is it that when RS was selling new scanners with no warranty, that wasn't an issue, but buying a scanner that may fail and be repaired at no cost is?

Sigh . . .

You miss the point again, V. babe. RS was upfront about the no-warranty biz and you knew what you were getting before plunking down the bread. Uni-Junk, on the other hand, lied on their box and lied on their advertising about what you were getting, and years later the things still don't deliver, and for all we know, they're still cranking out unrequited junk.

Uniden said up front before the model was released that some features would be delayed, and others slated for future release. They were just as up front (if not more so) about it as RS, as many RS dealers made no mention about the no-warranty part.

Now, I'm sure there were Uniden dealers that didn't pass that info on as well. But, in each case the dealer's lack of being candid can't be held against the manufacturer.

Again, point being that when RS does it, it's no big deal. When Uniden does it, it's a disaster. But, I understand that many hold Uniden to a higher standard than Cellphone Shack. :D

Either it's right or it's wrong, but the same criteria should be used for both companies.

I said it before and I'll say it again, it's, "bulbs and batteries," they fail, they will continue to fail and they will always fail in all THINGS that have them. Do you have a table lamp, is your whole house junk because a light bulb goes out? Do you take your stove, microwave, refrigerator, light fixtures & cars to the JUNKYARD when a light bulb goes out or because your battery dies; because, if that's the case, I'd love to hide in your trash can, I sure wouldn't be grouchy, with all the junky electronics you throw out.

If you don't understand "bulb and batteries" look it up, Mrs. Technical writer. These scanners aren't jalopies, that will not be going away like Chevettes and Yugos.

That is correct and Uniden is wrong. If I would have had an issue with Radio Shack not delivering what was advertised I would be making the same posts about it. I have only had to have Radio Shack repair one thing in warranty, and I had no problem with it being sent in and repaired very quickly.

I do have a Uniden radio that after two years, still does not have the features that were advertised, and they have not bothered to give any status on this. I will complain about that, and will continue to do so until that is resolved.

I have the dimming issue. They are fixing it. I am not complaining about that. I will send it in when they finally get to those with just the dimming issue. It looks like they finally found the design flaw and are correcting it. They could be a little more honest about the issue, and what steps have been taken to correct it in future production.

Radio Shack was FAR more easier to order parts from. May not be the case any more, but you could look up any product, and all of its parts numbers easily. I never had any issue with the person on the phone when I ordered parts. I have ordered a decent amount of parts for various products. Uniden has some work to do in that respect

Radio Shack sucks and it has for a long time... No comparison sorry. Used to be my favorite store... Then about 4 years ago it began a death spiral it never recovered from. That's what happens when you are a business that can't decide what it wants to be. Anybody can sell cell phones... RS was unique in that it took care of the electronic hobbyist. Then they said FU and started eliminating merchandise until they had nothing left. They turned their backs on those of us who kept their doors open. Guess it bit them in the ***.

Yes - the "design flaw" was that they ordered LEDs from a source that provided ones that would not last. Personally, I don't call that a design flaw, but rather a bad source, but whatever floats your boat.

And FLAWED RTC batteries, I don't care who the Procurement officer was!

Do you think you can stop minimizing Paying customers opinion, if you don't work for them, STH.

Obviously faulty QA by "a" Procurement Officer, whether that was Unidens', vendors', manufactures. That was INF ACT a QA flaw, at the very least PERIOD

SAID Great Procurement Officer also got in bed with a WI-FI Dongle Vendor who was sub-par and didn't even know the product they were selling to Uniden, hence, SLIDING the whole roadmap back a 12 Months, AKA "WIFEY CAUSATIONAL"

IK IK it's just called a parts sourcing manager and I just don't understand blah blah blah. Not Unidens fault m.a.
