I hope they keep present owners in mind. If they drop us like hot potatos it could be detramental to them.

Personally, I was talking about the radio having a keypad for "on the fly" programming. Many people complained about the lack of a keypad on the PSR800 (not me).

I wanted a full keypad for ease of selecting scan lists. I turn them on and off as I am mobile, and crossing county lines.

Question, Two Different Product Lines?

If I am not mistaken, didn't RS used to sell GRE radios online? Yes, I know about the Pro106 & Pro-197, but there is another thing to consider.

RS already had two manufacturers making their radios, GRE & Uniden; however, both companies carried their own line as well.

So, I wonder if Whistler will be making a Whistler-branded model in addition to the RS line?

I am not relishing buying anything from RS. But, if I am forced to do so, I obviously will. Food for thought.

I have seen photographs of the Whistler-branded products & I did not see RS on the case. I suppose anyone can alter the photograph. I even saw one branded with Microsoft, LOL.

Well none of those four models are anything that I need or will get excited about but it's a great first step to get things going again and work the bugs out. I'm hoping once that's done they'll move on to adding the PSR models as well. I'd still love to get a PSR 800 and those 900's sounded like they would be a great buy as well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! But at this point I'll take this as great news no matter what they do with the rest of the GRE/Shack line or decide to work on for the future.

So again for those of us that now have to go to digital scanners because the agencies we listen too are no longer analog it is best to wait for the newest models to come out in hopes they are improvements with no bugs over the current models?

Since Whistler will be making radios for RS, what will happen to the Pro-18? From what I understand, GRE made the Pro-18. I wonder if this radio will be phased out. From my understanding, the Pro-18 won't work on Phase II systems. Any thoughts?

What's the difference between Phase I and Phase 2 systems of the APCO 25 system. I am just starting to have to switch over from analog scanners to digital scanners.

Isn't the top model suppose to be able to receive both Phase I and Phase 2 systems of APCO?
Which models receive both of phase 1 and phase 2? Home Patrol? Uniden 996, Radio Shack pro-197 and Pro 106?

I believe that all digital models handle P25 phase 1. The GRE PSR-800 is the only model which currently handles P25 phase 2. Since Whistler acquired the GRE line, I'm sure that the Whistler digital scanners, when they become available in the first quarter of 2014, will also do P25 phase 2.

The new Uniden scanners to be released in January 2014 (models 436 and 536) will also handle P25 phase 2.

Without going into technical details, phase 1 uses a type of transmission called FDMA. Phase 2 uses a type of transmission called TDMA. Basically, they are just different ways of dividing up and transmitting the digital signal.

So then I am guessing that when they have scanners that can receive both phases 1 and 2 that would be the scanner to have and it is best to wait before spending all of this $$$ to keep up?

Whistler has promised that they will produce at least one scanner with Phase 2 capability, but I would caution against anyone assuming that all Whistler scanners will be capable of handling Phase 2. Whistler has announced that they will restart production of the PRO-197/PRO-106 scanners (with different model numbers), and those units do not support Phase 2.
