Will VP8000 allow P25, DMR, and NXDN at the same time?

I hope that "crappy audio" is for the 'bottom barrell' harris stuff because all I get here is how good the KENWOOD's sound.

Our Province wide Harris system has a ton of fire agencies running Kenwood/EFJ as well. We'll at least the ones that don't buy the bottom barrel Harris radios. Always easy to tell those users by the really crappy audio.

Now I'm curious - is that only occurring with the lower-tier Harris portables?

I would be an "authorized user" and not trying to "passive scan" but regardless, I would still like a correct answer.

You cannot program any trunking systems into the radio without the appropriate ESD/ESK present. If you have that, there is no limit to what you can scan. That is the only caveat.

So yes - You can scan any combination of analog, P25 conventional/trunked, DMR conventional/trunked, and NXDN conventional across any of the RF bands supported (V/U/7-800).

Eagerly awaiting the 25.2 subscriber software release. Been told it should be this month some time. Can't wait to try out NXDN and Broadband Voice / Kenwood Boundless or whatever they are calling it.

And how did you manage to get the key?

I have this little blue USB dongle that has Viking molded into the housing that I plug into my computer whenever I'm programming Viking radios. Just like I have a little blue USB dongle that has batwings molded into the housing that I plug into my computer whenever I launch APX CPS.

I was trying to make the point that if you have a legitimate key, theres no point in doing NAS. At that point its just scanning trunking for whatever youre authorized for

I'm mainly curious whether it's an issue with all current Harris portables or just the XL-45/95P low-tier models. The one Harris-equipped jurisdiction in my local area has awful shrill audio; Motorola and Kenwood gear sounds noticeably more natural.

Registering/affiliating to multiple sites/systems/platforms would considerably increase the time spent on each one and would make scanning between them next to useless. I have no idea how this radio works, but I'd highly suspect and hope it doesn't do that.

Yeah – it certainly couldn't go through a whole register/affiliate handshake with each system before moving on to the next system. I thought it might register/affiliate once with each system and then just listen to each CC long enough to get the current status info for the non-CC channels.

Can confirm having used a VP8K for a year that when using RWS, there are no affiliation requests sent to a zone controller, nor does it respond to commands in RCM when scanning a P25 trunked system, so it is truly "no affiliate" scanning. BUT, as mentioned, one needs a valid aKey to program any P25 network- and- womp womp womp...no 35 year old DOS programs are out there for forge them. Only given to system owners by EFJ/Kenwood.

I regularly scan two P25 systems, conventional and DMR with RWS. I have two priority channels, one conventional and one trunking and the VP8000 does a great job.
