WISCOM Progress

I have been hearing lots of voice traffic on the Chilton site, and some testing on the DePere and Eden sites this week. Mostly techs on TGs: 100, 101, 102, and 103. Also non-voice keyups of 1-2 min in duration on TG 1, Also on TG 3, I heard a Fond Du Lac PD officer calling a State Car on "S Tac 3", although they were probably just using demo radios as opposed to actually having it programmed into thiers. I also heard Chilton shut down while they tested tones on 152.02250 and 152.5175 in conventional mode with a NAC of 293. My monitoring location is the Fox Valley (mobile) mainly Appleton, Neenah, and Menasha.

MarcusDude, are you picking up any other control channels from Eden or DePere? I'm not hearing any from over here in New London. (Not that I should be. Just curious.)

Actually, now that I noticed in the other thread that DePere uses 139.0875 I checked it and I am receiving a control channel there, but it's marginal. From as low as 46% decode on up to 80% or so at times.

Not hearing anything from Eden up this way. But that is a pretty good haul.

I cannot pick up even a trace of a control channel on 152.75, so it probably isn't Columbus or Baraboo.

Unless something changed, that is Columbus.

Final acceptance with EFJ is taking place very soon on several dozen sites, so the next month or two will yield much more activity than has taken place thus far. Stay tuned (literally).

Got these on a road trip today:

Columbus:
150.87500
151.01000
151.34000
152.75000 control channel
155.50500

Baraboo:
151.44500
152.14250 control channel

Also techs testing on Chilton TG101 this morning. They IDed as "Car 31" and "Car 40" and there was at least one more that I didn't catch a number for. One was driving around Watertown, and the other was heading southbound on US41 from FDL WSP post going to Waukesha, calling crossroads as he passed and "test 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1". Also heard them briefly on Eden TG101.

*Important*

I have removed all non-operational WISCOM sites from the database, and have edited the existing 6 based on the information received thus far. As additional sites come on line in the near future, they will be added to the database as submissions come in and can be confirmed.

Is that a Motorola rubber ducky on your EFJ portable ? :p

You better believe it

I was running around with the stock duck and it stinks compared to the /\/\ dipole. It was a cache radio, so they are pretty bare bones.

My antenna is back where it belongs now.

Chilton is the only site I can monitor reliably at this time due to my location and there is a fair amount of voice activity on it every day. Still just testing of course.

I don't have much to compare the audio to other than the Michigan MPSCS system which I listen to whenever I head back home to visit, but the audio on the system seems to be quite good. If they are all EFJ radios they produce some nice audio.

Do you, perhaps, have a list you could share with us?

I haven't a clue what sites they are at this point...not my baby. I'm in dark just as much as the rest of you, but I like surprises :)

So...What is the primary purpose of WISCOM going to be?

Some members know that I have recently moved here from New Jersey where I was a dispatcher, and there we have a system called SPEN (State Police Emergency Network) This system on a daily basis was used for announcements (Wanted persons, stop and hold, ect) But was rarely used for any type of mutual aid or ground operations, mainly because FEW vehicles or portables had SPEN programmed...EVERY dispatch desk in the state was required to have SPEN.

WISCOM is an interoperability platform. I imagine that there will be some departments that may "buy in" and use it for day-day operations after a while.

If you have read the other threads, you've seen that the system is in it's infancy right now. 2011 will be a busy year with site build-out, which will lead to more traffic on the system. I would venture a guess that there are less than 25 functional radios on the system right now. There have been a couple of grant periods to get radios, but as far as I know there is only one grant radio actually operational on the system.

So will this system eventually replace channels such as point to point (155.370 i believe) As well as serve as a backbone to patch other systems together when needed?
