I have positive ID on this user as recently as June. Could be who you heard.

35.1800/186.2 - WPGG338 - Niles Flash Cab, Niles IL

"Starting from their first days of service, FLASH was a pioneer. FLASH was the first taxi dispatch company in the United States to offer two-way radio service, enabling drivers to finally communicate with their dispatchers. In fact, the first radios used in FLASH cabs were sold to the company by a Mr. Paul Galvin. He worked for a growing Chicago business, Galvin Manufacturing Corporation in Chicago (which changed its name a few years later to become known as MOTOROLA). "

I just had 35.180--186.2 check in,
sounded like an ambulance / transport.

The other night,
I was scanning -all- the other lo-vhf freq's you previously posted,
I had caught our lake's region on 33.900--pl--192.8,
I then saw the meter on my 15X was at 1 bar on that freq.
i put it on search,
and then I got a weird 1..
Lake's Region talked, and it sounded like someone responding -- same freq--pl 179.9..
It was very weak, but still-- 33.900, 179.9..
Also, I wanna say--on 40.670, I heard the weirdest data? signal...

I am trying to DX today,
but i got some wild skip going on.
I must have pushed lockout on my Uniden 15X 50 times before leaving the 30 mhz range and go to 40..
Every signal is giving me 3 bars or more.
Even 40 is giving up static.
It is gonna take me 30 minutes just to lock out all this crap.
I heard SNOTEL-and thought I'd give it a try.
Since I have been typing this, I have only gone from 36 mhz to 41.250...
Dang! This stinx!!
Weird- every .060 mhz, is a skip.
42.400, static, 42.470 static.
What a rotten trend today.
Hope someone else is having better luck

That 55.0000 frequency is an interesting catch, kkn50. I know the US military "FM" (SINCGARS) radios do 30-88 MHz FM in 25 kHz steps (some even do 30-512!).

How high do you search when you do your scanning? And why do you skip the 26-30 MHz section? I know when VHF lowband is open, 11 and 10 meters are usually blowing up. 11 meters especially. Activity in the 26.5 to 26.8 MHz region is usually indicative of an open to Latin America, same with the upper part of 27 MHz, usually 27.5 to 27.9 being active indicating an opening to Brazil.

Because the hams and outbanders talk so much they keep the scanner locked up. I occasionally tune the ten meter beacon band.

Makes sense to me. I could create a whole new log just covering the 25-30 MHz section! Regarding the 10m beacon band - it may interest you that there is an "unofficial" 11m beacon band as well. That is, 27.500 to 27.600 MHz. Several stations now transmit CW IDs or continuous tones on 27.500, 27.505, 27.535, 27.540, 27.545 and 27.590 MHz. I have heard an FM tone beacon on 27.545 with a PL tone of 118.8 during a band opening before.

The heavy use of 25 to 30 MHz for taxicab dispatch in AM mode, 10 kHz steps, starting with 25.615 MHz - is mirrored in your logs with the heavy use of 30 to 35 MHz for taxicab dispatch in FM mode, 10 kHz steps as well, starting with 29.710 MHz.

Keep up the good work, kkn50! I always enjoy reading your logs.

I've noticed you've logged 29.8800 MHz a couple times now, one with CSQ as the tone. I'm assuming you're receiving these transmissions in FM mode, not AM? The US FCC legal 29 MHz land mobile allocations start at 29.7100 MHz and stop at 29.7900 MHz. 29.8800 doesn't fit in with the usual 2x.xx5 channelized frequencies of the "export radios" sold these days. Most of which, by the way, cover up to 30.105 MHz or even 30.555 MHz. 29.875 MHz AM/FM or 29.885 MHz AM/FM would make sense re: whoever they are using channelized export radios. Of course, many of these radios now offer a "-5 kHz" button which would make the "zero" frequency possible.

Interestingly enough, 29.725 to 29.985 in 10 kHz steps is actually a radio control R/C allocation for New Zealand and Australia.
