The Sheriff Office went NEXEDGE last year. But since July 1, I've been hearing the static and modulating noise on some of the EMT frequencies as well. Did the ambulance dispatch go NEXEDGE too?

Also, I'm hearing outside agencies on the local frequencies now...things I've never heard before. Not even sure if they are police. One even sounds like a taxi service. Just a lot of weird stuff seems to be going on around here on the frequencies formerly used here for years..

The winds of change are blowing strong... Anybody have the scoop on what's going on?

I have to agree with you on the weird stuff we are hearing. The ambulance service is still on there same frequency as is the police dept. I have been told they are going to new radios but no one can really tell me when.

Currently FD, PD and EMS are all on their old frequencies and using analog. The digital conversion is expected any day now for PD and EMS, with fire coming later this year. Hopefully RR will find a way to get the new information quickly and get it out to everyone.

By digitial.. do you mean NEXEDGE? I assume they will all go NEXEDGE, since the SO already has it. Just want to confirm.

If that's the case, Anderson Co. is about to go dark on the scanners. Sad day.. sad day indeed.

I was told today that EMS will be going to Nexedge on wednesday, August 15th. I assume PD will be upgrading at the same time, but that isn't confirmed.

:(

Sigh.. I really enjoy monitoring EMS and fire.. this is sad news.

I wonder if they'll go fully encrypted or if they'll just run plain ol' Nexedge?

No encryption is planned at this time. RAN code only, but the RAN code hasnt been published anywhere i've seen.

...and they are having issues already. Just heard a unit radio in and say that they cannot communicate among themselves on the new radios...and he asked what's going on. Doesn't sound good right now.

A local vendor said they would sell a Kenwood radio, but they would not sell the software or cables. Looks like I will be shopping online, AFTER I confirm that EMS/fire does not go encrypted.

ACEMS will not be going encrypted, according to some of the command staff I've spoken with.

The terrain of Anderson County doesn't work extremely well for digital, but they currently have 3 repeaters covering the county, each using the same output frequency, with a different input frequency. They are working out some kinks in the system, as far as coverage, and the fact that dispatch sounds like they're talking inside of a tin can.

Fire will also not be going with any type of encryption, as confirmed by one of the city fire officers.

LBPD has made no statements as to if they will be encrypted or not, as of yet.

City police were late getting their grant applications in, so they are still short a few radios. he city has also been dealing with a lot of issues with dispatch communicating with ems, so things are being held up.
